Sgt. Rock Revived in the Future

Warner Bros. Pictures to adapt comic book to be set in future, rather than WWII
The Los Angeles Times chatted with producer Joel Silver who revealed that Warner Bros. Pictures has revived the comic book adaptation Sgt. Rock, but won't set the film during WWII, like the comic book, but is aiming for the not-too-distant future.

"I'm really close on that now," Silver said of the Sgt. Rock film. "What we've done is gone back to it and we've done a new draft that actually came in this week. We have a shot at that one now. I feel good about it. That one might happen."

"It's a little bit in the future," Silver said. "As a war movie, it's not going to be 'where it's been,' it's going to be 'where it's going.' We didn't want to do Iraq, we didn't want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war. It's pretty strong. Chad St. John wrote the script and we've got Francis Lawrence involved in developing it with us. It's not a 'go' movie yet but I'm feeling good about it."

No production date has been set.

Sgt. Rock comes to theaters in 2012.

You have got to be kidding! Sgt Rock always fought Facism not sOme futuristic contemporary enemy. Why is Warner Bros not keeping true to the format of the original. Are we going to have a GI Joe looh alike. GI was also set in the big one but we stuffed that one up. Why do the studios let these script writers take so much liberal poetic licence? Giveme a break!

Is it just me, or have filmakers aimed more toward making movies set in the future or present than in the past?
