The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that seven films remain in competition in the Makeup category for The 83rd Academy Awards.

The films are listed below in alphabetical order:




On Saturday, January 22, all members of the Academy's Makeup Branch will be invited to view 10-minute excerpts from each of the seven shortlisted films. Following the screenings, members will vote to nominate three films for final Oscar consideration.

The 83rd Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will be presented on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide.

The Academy Awards episode 83.1, "The 83rd Annual Academy Awards" stars Anne Hathaway, James Franco, Jeff Bridges, Robert Downey Jr., Robert Pattinson, Nicole Kidman, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock and is directed by Don Mischer.

Alice in Wonderland was released March 5th, 2010 and stars Mia Wasikowska, Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Crispin Glover, Matt Lucas, Stephen Fry, Michael Sheen. The film is directed by Tim Burton.

Barney's Version was released January 14th, 2011 and stars Paul Giamatti, Macha Grenon, Paul Gross, Atom Egoyan, Mark Camacho, David Pryde, Paula Jean Hixson, Mark Addy. The film is directed by Richard J. Lewis.

The Fighter was released December 10th, 2010 and stars Christian Bale, Mark Wahlberg, Amy Adams, Melissa Leo, Dendrie Taylor, Jack McGee, Jenna Lamia, Bianca Hunter. The film is directed by David O. Russell.

Jonah Hex was released June 18th, 2010 and stars Josh Brolin, John Malkovich, Megan Fox, Michael Fassbender, Will Arnett, John Gallagher Jr., Tom Wopat, Michael Shannon. The film is directed by Jimmy Hayward.

True Grit was released December 22nd, 2010 and stars Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, Barry Pepper, Hailee Steinfeld, Paul Rae, Ed Corbin. The film is directed by Ethan Coen, Joel Coen.

The Way Back was released December 29th, 2010 and stars Colin Farrell, Mark Strong, Saoirse Ronan, Jim Sturgess, Ed Harris, Gustaf SkarsgÄrd, Dragos Bucur, Sebastian Urzendowsky. The film is directed by Peter Weir.

The Wolfman was released February 12th, 2010 and stars Simon Merrells, Gemma Whelan, Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro, Mario Marin-Borquez, Asa Butterfield, Cristina Contes, Anthony Hopkins. The film is directed by Joe Johnston.

    No, the Golden Globes suck on the whole, and they have sucked for an innumerable amount of years. The Golden Globes is just a more dignified, more extravagant version of the People's Choice Awards. It's sad: the Academy is following too, as it becomes progressively mainstream.

    @Dave and you forgot the movie itself being nominated as best picture of the year. . . . . . What exactly qualifies that as comedy, btw? if they want to divide by genre, they should have one for action. Otherwise, what would something like Iron Man or Bourne fall into? Comedy? I think not.

    Wolfman all the way. The werewolf just looked excellent. Makeup artist Rick Baker deserves an oscar especially for his works on past werewolf films. I also loved how he managed to keep the first perception of the wolfman in the original classic and applying it to this one
