SET VISIT PREVIEW: Going Faster with Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson is Driver in the new George Tillman Jr. film Faster

While there have been other professional wrestlers that have succeeded in the transition from wrestler to actor, it is without question that no one has been more successful in that transition than Dwayne Johnson. The man who used to go by the moniker "The Rock" inside the wrestling ring has shown a softer side on the silver screen as of late, with roles in successful family films such as The Game Plan, Race to Witch Mountain and Tooth Fairy. Now he's ready to get back into action - as in the action genre - with his new film Faster.

I was recently invited to the set of the film, which is currently shooting at CBS Studios in Los Angeles. When we entered the soundstage after watching a slick little sizzle reel for the film - which was not only impressive because of the content, but because they could cut such an effective reel out of just four weeks of shooting - the first person we were greeted by was "The Rock" himself, Dwayne Johnson. I had never met Johnson before and I was told by many press colleagues prior to the visit that he is sincerely one of the nicest guys they've met in the business. I would have to agree. And I'm not saying that because he could probably throw me 50 yards without breaking a sweat, but because it's actually true.

Johnson doesn't play such a nice guy in the film, however, portraying a man only known as "Driver," which is a theme carried throughout the film in fantastic 70s throwback fashion. Driver was attempting to rob a bank with his brother when their partners set them up and kill his brother, leaving Driver as the fall guy. He does 10 years in prison and that entire time the only thing he can think about is avenging his brother's death. He has a list of four names, four men responsible for what happened to his brother, four men who must die. While Driver is hunting down these men, he's also being hunted down by "Cop," played by Billy Bob Thornton and "Killer," a slick assassin played by British newcomer Oliver Jackson-Cohen. The film also features performances from Carla Gugino, Maggie Grace, Moon Bloodgood and Tom Berenger.
