Monsters Trailer 2
The breakout hit of this years SXSW, Gareth Edwards' groundbreaking new film is as much a poignant contemporary romance as it is an epic science fiction adventure. Shot with just a five person crew and a cast of two, Gareth Edwards' team traveled through Guatemala, Belize and Mexico, finding and utilizing their locations and supporting actors as they went. The result is a film as cutting edge as it is classically composed, as emotionally satisfying as it is visually stunning, and the bold announcement of a major new talent.
Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an Infected Zone. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures... Our story begins when a jaded US journalist (Scoot McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his bosses daughter, a shaken American tourist (Whitney Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border.
Monsters was released October 29th, 2010 and stars Whitney Able, Scoot McNairy. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards.

agreed. i don't think it's gonna be bad and i'm not busting on the dreams of its screenwriter or director (b/c u r right about how ppl hang on to ideas). the reason i even pointed it out was to calm those blasting me and others for noticing the similarities. like i said - just b/c they are obvious similarities to me doesn't mean it won't be good or put its own fresh take on it. having watched the trailer a second time i am more excited about it now than i was before.

I'm an AVID screenwriter and you have no idea how many times a concept I came up with 5 years age are now coming to life that was created from someone else.

I see but I'm still not saying that this has that many similarities that I really care about. Hell who knows this movie could of been in someones mind for the last 20 years and have only now gotten it made cause of the success of D9 and CF. Who really knows?

outside of having a point of origin for the monster(s) (which is a nice touch, rather than having no explanation as to how the monster appears on earth), there are several similarities outside of just having big, menacing monsters:
(1) instead of a demilitarized zone of aliens (refugee camp, isolated from general population as in D9) it is a quarantine zone.
(2) it's a "normal," non-military person (or people) out dueling and out-living trained soldiers (and in this case the main character is a journalist just like in D9),
(3) cinematically the preview hints at the Hitchc*ck trademark of "show little and up the suspense" (hence the reason you don't see the monster other than tentacles) - Signs, Cloverfield (in some aspects), etc. (NOTE: this is not a bad thing - i prefer it that way... makes it more suspenseful),
(4) D9, Cloverfield and now Monsters are all indie monster flicks (not massive budget, massive hyped projects)
(5) military/government failure to cover up monsters/aliens and their inability to fully defeat/control them
(6) probably the biggest reason for the comparisons between these flicks (D9, Cloverfield and Monsters) is their release dates are relatively close to one another. especially considering D9 and CLoverfield were revolutionary achievements in the monster-movie genre. they've all been released within 2.5 yrs of each other (Cloverfield 2008, D9 2009, Monsters 2010)
u have to admit it has several similarities. similarities don't mean "bad" - but when you make a movie with several similar features, it's gonna draw attention, comparisons and criticism.
i don't think this movie looks bad... it has many intriguing elements to it (origin story, military scenes look awesome, Mayan ruins connection, etc.) but it does have several glaring similarities.

The only thing on TV or film I've seen that I thought was a rip off was Heroes...I mean if they called it Marvel then I'd be happy.

Just like the first trailer, this didn't remind me of D9 or Cloverfield at all. Sure, it has similarities, but it's a f*cking alien/monster movie. If you keep comparing every movie that comes out in that genre to either D9 or Cloverfield you will never be satisfied. Some of you just like to complain, I swear to f*cking God...
Read the f*cking plot synopsis and you may find the only similarity between this and D9/Cloverfield is monsters...oh, well I'll be damned! IT'S A MONSTER MOVIE! At least have the decency to see the movie before you make bullsh*t remarks like that.

How many times do I have to say this, stories now a days are combo of some other movies, even when someone doesn't mean to write it that way it ends up being that way because of inspiration. And with so many movies being made, the audience is going to look and find similarities, it's what the human brain does.

i know i am a hater, but all i see when i watch this trailer (and the first) is nothing but a rehashing of other alien/monster movies. yes it seems entertaining to a small extent, but i hope they are able to bring a tired genre of movies back to life. so far it seems like nothing short of a mashup between Cloverfield (less the shaky cam), District 9, Godzilla (with tentacles) and all alien-cover up conspiracy flix.
that being said, it seems ok and i am interested in watching it, but will most likely be waiting until bluray.
