Will Smith said in a recent interview that he was really close to doing Django Unchained, he even went on to say that it was one of the best scripts he ever read, but due to scheduling conflicts of him being in the middle of MIB3, he wasn't able to. He said he didn't want to hold Quentin up, but he also went on to say that Django Unchained will be great when it comes out. But damn though, I like Jamie Foxx, but Will would have been still great in this, oh well, Jamie still looks great though.

@thedude-abides -- I don't have any credit on iTunes, but I do have Xbox Microsoft points, and the aforementioned memberships. Don't worry, I'll be sure to watch it when ever I get the chance.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx You can rent Pulp Fiction on iTunes if that appeals to you.

Looks like a classic western to me, but with a trailer that is cut to market a classic Tarantino film. I'm not worried.

@thedude-abides -- Indeed. I swear to God, it made "The Departed" an unintentional comedy. "In America, we don't add inches to our *inaudible wording/grunt*.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Yeah, you can't watch either of those censored; it's like watching two totally different movies.

@thedude-abides -- Wow! I would have watched it on television, but I knew that wouldn't do the film complete justice. The language censorship/dubbing doesn't help, which is exactly why I need to give "The Departed" a second viewing.

@bawnian-dexeus -- That's exactly why I think it's going to be one of those Kill Bill scenarios. Quentin Tarantino can be over-the-top, but this is pushing it, even by his standards.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Yeah, they did. I thought you had dvd delivery.

I think it's just being advertised as blaxploitation because it's a black protagonist, and it's shot very much in the way a 70s film would be shot with the camera angles, quick zooms, etc. I think it's just Tarantino's way of having fun. The script doesn't read that way in the least.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Well, once James Brown kicks in it does. But let's wait and see. I just hope it doesn't have too much silliness. I know Tarantino enjoys his black humor, but well, you know what I mean

@bawnian-dexeus@thedude-abides -- Am I the only one that feel it's being advertised towards Tyler Perry fans? Not to be racist, or stereotypical, of course. But, talk about blaxploitation.

  21. thedude-abides

@bawnian-dexeus Which is shocking because it's supposed to be an ode to Sergio Leone...

Having read the script, however, I think it'll be more western than the trailers would lead us to believe. I think it's just being marketed that way for some weird reason.

  22. Bawnian©-Dexeus

@thedude-abides@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx We can agree this isn't the most conventional western. Maybe it is, but it doesn't seem like it's being marketed to be such a thing

  23. thedude-abides

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Well, I think Pulp Fiction is his undisputed masterpiece. After that, I consider Reservoir Dogs, Inglourious Basterds, and Kill Bill Vol. 1 to be at the top of his catalogue, with Death Proof, KBV2, and Jackie Brown as his "lesser" movies. I think Django will rank somewhere in the bottom half.

  24. Nicholaus XX

@thedude-abides -- Too true! I honestly don't know what to expect. I know it's going to be worth watching, but I'm not sure what category it will fit under. How well do you think it will measure beside the Kill Bill movies?

    11 months agoby @XxNickTheFilmCriticXxFlag

  25. thedude-abides

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Agreed. And yeah, the Kill Bill trailers sucked even worse than the first Django trailer. But I'm confident, for the reasons you mentioned, with what I know I'm going to be getting with Django Unchained. Like I said about Prometheus before it came out, Django will most likely wind up being a very entertaining 3-star film.

  26. Nicholaus XX

@thedude-abides -- That's probably the case -- at least it was tweaked for the better. I think the more trailers and TV spots come out, the better the movie will appear. I really think this will be one of those "Kill Bill" scenarios; cheesy trailers that fail to provide/show the Quentin Tarantino trademark, only to turn out great.

Before I saw Kill Bill: Volume 1 and 2, I watched a couple of trailers to pique my interest. I didn't understand how the film got great reviews, and such praise. After watching it, I realized the trailers were VERY misleading. The film looked like a satire, but winded up being a very serious movie sprinkled with black humor.

Let's pray that will be the case. Oh, and be sure to let me know what vibe you got from the Kill Bill trailers.

  27. thedude-abides

I'm now wondering if the first trailer was pulled from Prometheus because someone wasn't happy with it, because this is pretty much the same exact footage, only tweaked.
