Fangoria has learned that Screen Gems is developing a remake of Paul Lynch's 1980 slasher film Prom Night. The project had fallen apart over scripting issues, but apparently the production is now proceeding. The studio has announced that the remake will hit screens February 1, 2008. No talent has yet been attached.

Lynch's film (which inspired three unrelated sequels), a Jamie Lee Curtis-starring box-office hit, is about a senior-year dance interrupted by the interloping of a masked marauder seeking revenge for a little girl's death years before.

It is not known how much of the original story remains intact and whether Screen Gems will move the release date closer to the prom-season time-frame in May/June.

Prom Night was released April 11th, 2008 and stars Brittany Snow, Scott Porter, Jessica Stroup, Dana Davis, Collins Pennie, Kelly Blatz, James Ransone, Brianne Davis. The film is directed by Nelson McCormick.
