Scarlett Johansson to Replace Emily Blunt in Iron Man 2?

Though Emily Blunt was to play Black Widow in the upcoming Marvel sequel Iron Man 2, it looks like she might have to drop out due to her commitments to 20th Century Fox's Gulliver's Travels, which she will star in opposite Jack Black. According to Entertainment Weekly, Marvel is seeking to replace her with actress Scarlett Johansson.

At this time, Marvel is not commenting on the story. Sources close to the actress have confirmed that Johansson has met with filmmakers, and is very interested in taking on the role of Russian superspy turned Black Widow Natasha Romanoff. At this time, Blunt's representatives insist that she is trying to make both projects fit into her schedule. Gulliver's Travels is to start shooting on April 15th. Though, Iron Man 2 does not have a shooting script nor a set start date.

Iron Man 2 should be in theaters on May 7th, 2010. But that is subject to change.

Iron Man 2 was released May 7th, 2010 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Jon Favreau.

Gulliver's Travels was released December 25th, 2010 and stars Emily Blunt, Jason Segel, Jack Black, Amanda Peet, Billy Connolly, T.J. Miller, Romany Malco, Chris O'Dowd. The film is directed by Rob Letterman.

    They're not getting big name actors to make up for a lack of story, in fact, it's quite the opposite. The introduction of Black Widow will make for an interesting relationship between Tony and her, whether it be romantic or other. Mickey Rourke is either playing Dynamo or Whiplash, which means they have him for a story aspect, and Sam Rockwell is playing Justin Hammer, another story aspect as a business rival for Stark. Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard was their decision and it's not a big deal because he'll become War Machine either way(another story aspect). Besides, I think Cheadle will be better in the role and when we see his performance we'll forget about Howard. The movie already has more story than you can shake a stick at. The first Iron Man had an all-star cast and was hugely successful. So no, they aren't getting big name actors to make up for a lack of story, they're getting big name actors to match up with the big name actors who are already a part of the series. Like City of Kings said, this is a wait and see situation, and I think we can all relax while waiting and seeing.

    scarlett is ok as an actress, but this has the potential to take Iron Man to "Batman and Robin" heights (casting huge names thinking they will make up for lack of story). not to say IM2 will have no plot/story, but first they dump Terrance Howard for Don Cheadle (while I don't agree with the dumping - DC is a SUPERB actor; however would rather them have kept TH), they still have no script or production start date and now they possibly move from Emily to Johansson. lookin' pretty shaky...

    Dude, you can't dismiss Scar Jo from comic book movies entirely based on The Spirit. She was doing what the director asked her, and from what I've heard, EVERYTHING about that movie was crap. She can do this. She's a well known and good actress who I'm sure can kick ass in a leather suit and rock some red hair. With Downey Jr., Paltrow, Rourke, and Cheadle, at least we know Scarlett has the presence and star power to match up with heavy hitters like that. On a side note, I won't mind who gets the role, Blunt or Johansson, I won't be disappointed either way...I'm just giving reasons for why we shouldn't complain if Scarlett gets it
