Universal Pictures is meeting with writers to develop a new Scarface
The studio is currently seeking out writers for a new take, which would include the gangster elements found in the original 1932 Scarface and the 1983 remake which starred Al Pacino in his legendary turn as gangster Tony Montana.
It is not known where this new version of Tony Montana will hail from. The original Scarface featured Paul Muni's Tony Camonte as an Italian immigrant who rises through the ranks of the Chicago criminal underworld, while the remake featured Al Pacino's Tony Montana, a Cuban immigrant who went from rags to riches by muscling in on the Miami cocaine trade.
Ironically, Universal may encounter the same kind of negative reaction with this new version that they faced when remaking the 1932 Scarface, which was directed by Howard Hawks. Despite the initial negative backlash, the Scarface remake went on to become a classic. However, it isn't clear how the movie-going public will react to a new version.
Scarface was released in 1932 and stars Paul Muni, Ann Dvorak, Karen Morley, Osgood Perkins, C. Henry Gordon, George Raft, Vince Barnett, Boris Karloff. The film is directed by Howard Hawks, Richard Rosson.

@addictionnonfatel: Totally agree man. The plot elements may be the same, but using that same name will only hurt the project, and is a waste of time anyway with so many other gangster stories they could be telling.
However, as for all the sellout comments, both "Scarface" films were rags to riches to death stories which epitomized the american dream, if not in the right fashion. Adapting it again from another immigrant's view is pointless if the same plot is adapted. But if they change the plot elements, but retain the basic idea of rags to riches to death, then something can be made of it.

Bottomline, it's not going to be a remake, or sequel but what Hollywood likes to refer to as a "Reboot." So don't be calling us a bunch of f*cking babies! I'll tell you what the movie going public will think of this, shall i? Scarface is an all time classic, the movie soundtrack is probs one of the best, classic 80s!! I dont care if this is a retelling or a remake or a prequel, im not impressed!! Leave my all time fav film alone Hollywood. Come up with some new feckin ideas!! x

I think that the Scarface of OUR generation is too ingrained in our culture. If this is just another rags to riches thru crime movie why not try something like United States Gangster.

As you can see from the quote its simply a rags to riches movie with gangster elements. This plot has been used a million times. I'm sure none of you were complaining when American Gangster came out, which is basically the same thing. Here's a novel idea why don't you wait to see where this goes before you star getting your titti*s in a twist. Oh and FYI, Anders, the '83 Scarface isn't that great.

Certain films have shaped entire genres, have carved out a niche in our collective film histories. I say hands off those films. . no remaking Scarface, Full Metal Jacket, Alien, Blade Runner. Im sure everyone has their own list of great "Hands Off" films. . but another Scarface movie seems like a grab for money. What could possibly be added to the story?

In all honesty, I think Pacino's Scarface is the most overrated film of all-time. I'll even say his performance is vastly overrated. I do find it hilarious that more people are upset this than the fact that A Star is Born is being remade for a third time, with Beyonce no less (you know, whenever she is ready to film after her pregnancy).
