"We would want to do something that is a bit of a different take. That's probably what it would take."
James Wan and Leigh Whannell directed and wrote the original Saw in 2004, although their involvement in the sequels was mainly limited to executive producer roles. While Saw 3D is believed to be the last installment, James Wan believes the franchise will return.
"I would say you can always count on capitalism, guys. That's all I have to say. It is finished for now, but the fact that it's such a huge, well-known franchise, means that it's going to come back at some point."

It would be more of an exciting news if it comes out to say that they are gonna give SAW a little time off.......This is ridiculous, it's like watching the same thing over and over again.....

Translation: Every project we worked on has bomb. But thanks to greedy America we can milk this Saw thing again.
Commentary on Saw 5-6 said the company wanted to go to 9-10. Another waste of a reboot. And Insidious sucked!
ps Insidious sucked!

This does not surprise me. Of course claiming that its the FINAL installment of a franchise will get people to see it. Its happend in a lot of the major horror franchises over the years. I never believed it would go away in the first place.

Saw was supposed to be only one movie...then a trilogy...then it went too far. And now we have another sh*t series of Horror films with no end in sight. Oh happy days.

(Darth Vader in "Revenge of the Sith"): NoooooOooooOoooo!... Don't f*cking resurrect the series, just leave it as you've ended. Without ANY major plot twist, or freaking "Who's the damn killer?" susp*cions, the series (after 3-4-5-6-7) is trash!
...
Or at least do it in 5D so it would be worth for the ticket.

@ghostman i can understand the hating that is going on. personally i'm not a big saw fan, although i do think the first one was awesome. great psychological thriller. However, as someone who wasn't super invested, the ones following that although the stories differ the gimmick is much the same, and all used gore and 'how messed up can we make this contraption or scenerio' as a crutch

I just don't understand all the hatin' going on about Saw. It's over....for now. Every film in the franchise may have the same 'Formula' but each entry has its own story element that are different from each other. Like director Darren Bousman (II-IV) said: "If you look behind all the bloody gore, and pull the curtain to reveal what it truly is, you have a movie about living life to the fullest and cherishing it, by taking life for the granted" I'll go through each movie and show how they're all different:
Saw- Really original and pyschological film that introduced us to the next Generations Iconic movie villian Jigsaw.
Saw II- Was more of a character study about Jigsaw and the regrets from Eric Matthews life as a burtallic cop.
Saw III-This was an ultra-violent gore fest that didn't really go anywhere in the franchise. Although it did answer a few questions from the first film
Saw IV- It was Jigsaw's Origin story. Being that this entry was parralel to Saw III, it also didn't touch new grounds to move forward.
Saw V- Simple cat-and-mouse chase film about blackmailing. Lacked in story.
Saw VI- Picking up where the 5th one ended, made it seem like V-VI are to be watched as one movie. Plus it re-energized the franchise bringing it back to their roots from the first film.
Saw 3D(VII)- The most radically different from previous installments. It had a tottaly different atmosphere and a nice pace up until the last 20 minutes that changed into a super-charged slasher with an anti-climatic end.
So as you can see, they are all not the same, but share the 'Formula' of Opening Trap+Re-cap of last film+Victim playing a game+Cliff-hanger ending= Saw Formula

@dr-carter The Saw franchise is about as dead as the Friday the 13th, Halloween, and Nightmare on Elm Street franchises.

or they could just continue it with dr gordon as the new jigsaw and take it from there.

So I'm thinking this would be a Re-boot of the franchise, or an entirely new franchise stories expanding the Saw-Universe (which they hinted at on the commentary) Being a HUGE fan of the Saw films, i'm still skeptical as to if they should make more or leave it where it ended, which was a great way to close the book IMO.

As long as these two would be back as the writer and director then I'm okay with another movie. If anyone could continue this franchise it is these two.
