Will Eisner's The Spirit has just landed another crucial cast member. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sarah Paulson has joined the film as The Spirit's one true love Dr. Ellen Dolan, the police commissioner's daughter.

Frank Miller is making his directorial debut with the project. Other new cast members include Dan Lauria, Stana Katic, Johnny Simmons and Louis Lombardi.

The film revolves around a rookie cop who returns from the dead to fight crime. Eva Mendes and Scarlett Johansson are starring as the leading ladies, with Gabriel Macht in the role of The Spirit and Samuel L. Jackson in the role of the villainous Dr. Octopus.

Shooting is set to start this October in New Mexico. The film will be released sometime in 2009.

The Spirit was released December 25th, 2008 and stars Jaime King, Gabriel Macht, Dan Gerrity, Arthur the Cat, Kimberly Cox, Brian Lucero, David Brian Martin, Larry Reinhardt-Meyer. The film is directed by Frank Miller.
