Samuel L. Jackson reveals Nick Fury will not appear in Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World
Last month, it was confirmed that Samuel L. Jackson will return as Nick Fury in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. However, there are still two more Marvel Phase II movies hitting theaters before that sequel, with Iron Man 3 arriving May 3, 2013 and Thor: The Dark World debuting November 8, 2013. Today, Samuel L. Jackson revealed that Nick Fury will not be popping up in Iron Man 3 or Thor: The Dark World.

"I think my next time as Nick Fury is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Because I'm not in Iron Man 3. None of the Avengers are in Iron Man 3. It's a standalone Iron Man movie."

After that, The Avengers 2 will likely be the next Nick Fury appearance, unless he makes some sort of surprise cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy. The actor is still working under a massive nine-picture deal he signed with Marvel Studios. He has appeared in five movies so far (Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger, and Marvel's The Avengers). It isn't clear how he will fulfill the remainder of his contract as of yet.

Iron Man 3 was released May 3rd, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, James Badge Dale. The film is directed by Shane Black.

Thor: The Dark World was released November 8th, 2013 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Ray Stevenson. The film is directed by Alan Taylor.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier was released April 4th, 2014 and stars Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Robert Redford, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Cobie Smulders, Frank Grillo. The film is directed by Anthony Russo, Joe Russo, Joss Whedon.

Marvel thank you for learning from your mistakes. It doesn't make sense for Fury to be in Iron Man 3 or Thor Dark World. The issue had with Iron Man 2 and Thor is Sheild constantly popping up. At least, Marvel can tone down on Sheild's presense and focus on more on the heros. That way it feels like a stand alone file.

I'm sure they COULD find a way for him to be in any of the movies, but I think it's more of a financial move than anything. He's signed to nine pictures, and even a cameo counts as one of those nine appearances. So they'll want to be sparing from here as far as when he shows up, because once they have him finish those nine they'll have to sign a new contract for (probably) more money.

he made appearances in all of them, why not just do the rest of the group as stand a lone films. So when Sam does Avengers 2 the group will be finished forming.

Kind of sucks but at the same time it makes sense. What more purpose could he serve now that's he's Easter egged his way into their films recruiting them?

It is going to seem weird not seeing him in Iron Man 3.

Sounds reasonable and makes more sense since Cap 2 will heavily involve SHIELD and Cap working with them still after The Avengers

Makes sense considering much of his character consisted of bringing all those entities together... Now that he has, there's no reason for him to be a standalone film(s).

He doesn't have to be. He's always got an "EYE" on Stark

It's good in a way, because he's probably going to appear in Ant-Man to recruit Hank into The Avengers which makes seven, then you have The Avengers 2 & 3 which will be nine so it all works out.
