The project is based on Stephen King's 2006 novel of the same name, which centers on Clay Wheeler (John Cusack), a Boston artist trying to reunite with his son after a mysterious cell phone signal turns humans into vicious monsters. Samuel L. Jackson is playing Tom McCourt, an engineer and former soldier who flees from the city with Clay.
Tod Williams (Paranormal Activity 2) is directing from a screenplay co-written by Stephen King and Adam Alleca (The Last House on the Left). Richard Saperstein, Michael Benaroya, Brian Witten and Shara Kay are producing, with Edward Mokhtarian, Armen Aghaeian, Xavier Gens, and Laurence Freed executive producing.
Samuel L. Jackson will next be seen in the Oldboy remake, arriving in theaters November 27.
