Sam Raimi Wants Nimrod Antal to Direct Spider-Man Reboot?

Nimrod Antal joins the director list for Spider-Man reboot
Nimrod Antal joins the director list for Spider-Man reboot
Another director's name has been thrown into the ring of potential helmers to take over a rebooted franchise. Quiet Earth is reporting that Nimrod Antal (Predators) is a top contender to direct the new Spider-Man franchise.

We reported yesterday that Marc Webb was at the top of Sony's list to helm the reboot, but this new story claims that Antal is the top choice of not only Sony, but of Sam Raimi as well. Here's an excerpt from the article.

The whole story goes like this: Sam Raimi met Nimrod on the Sony lot before his first US film, Vacancy. They clicked, so Sam hired him to direct Armored. Now, Predators is getting some great word-of-mouth around tinsel-town. Warners loves it and now Sam Raimi and Sony want the director back at the studio to helm Spiderman

Of course, none of this has been confirmed as of yet. Be sure to keep it right here as we'll be updating you on the plight of this new rebooted franchise as soon as we have more information.

The Amazing Spider-Man comes to theaters July 3rd, 2012 and stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Chris Zylka, Irrfan Khan, C. Thomas Howell. The film is directed by Marc Webb.

Sad, nothing we can do now. Webb has the task. I will just good luck Sam Raimi to my other favorite in the list movie that I'll definitely find a way to see first day of release in theater couple of years from now, the Warcraft debut movie. And of course for the sake of where I wrote this, a good luck also to Webb now Spiderman's future... in 3D.

"Predators is getting some great word of mouth around tinsel town"

Really? Has anyone SEEN enough of Predators to make that call? I thought they just started shooting it.

As for people who say Sony needs to get a director who's passionate about the Spiderman character, they already had that in Raimi and they didn't appreciate it, so I highly doubt that's their primary concern here. They want an up-and-comer they won't have to pay as much money to.

NIMROD, first up the guy needs to have a brain checked by keeping that name in hollywood. I'll give him credit that he can handle 'thriller/mood' but that's also in smaller filmds. THIS guy should only be hired as a SECOND UNIT DIRECTOR, nothing more! Either way he doesn't fit, i'd rather have a director that's handled CHARACTER driven films!

As for the JC shout outs, i agree that people are 'remembering' him because of AVATAR. The guys is a brilliant director, but his forte is grand-epic-vast-sweeping-films! Give him WARCRAFT and he'll make killer fantasy film!

Either way RAMI needs to go!

The thing I love the most about this, is that every single day since the annoucement, we have Spiderman news and rumors! I love it. Keeps me interested lol.

I wish that all the rights for the Marvel characters could come together. It would be sweet to see an Ultimate Alliance movie. Too bad that would never happen.

Agreed with (Insert...). Of Messenger & Guko too.
For me, what happened may sound Raimi's fault but he did it because he wanted his last Spidey spin to be fantastic! And since he knows 'the original plan' would be a reboot. I'd say he suggested his own thing but only couldn't make it to the deadline. So he was troubled. And what would a troubled man do if he knew 'today was his last day?' Either pack early or run naked to the beach and enjoy every last moment (with the gang)!
And for this news, well, at least Raimi still shows love to Spidey here and even suggested a friend! This is good news despite of what happened. If 'Armored' will be hired as the director, it's fine with me since I know Raimi is there to help him.
    And nice name, 'Nimrod'.

Sony still owns the rights to the Spider-Man films. Disney only owns Marvel Entertainment, which gave us Iron Man and the Incredible Hulk. They don't own other franchises like Spider-Man and X-Men because they are owned by Sony and Fox, respectively.

  29. Goku_ssj2

Raimi didn't have a say in it anyways, lets take Spiderman 3 for example - Venom wasn't even part of the movie until sony ordered Raimi to put it in the movie so they could f*ck it up and make more money, so i believe that Raimi only did what sony told him, thats why i doubt that Cameron will direct a reboot because no one can tell him what to do as we know from titanic and the rest of his work, they want someone who will do exactly what they say - after all to sony its all about money, not making a great movie...

  30. Messenger

I don't think he walked away nor did anyone else. From what I have gathered Raimi couldn't make a 2011 0r 12 release for SM so Sony (wanting money) decided a reboot. Which is completely premature.
