Sam Raimi Says Evil Dead 4 Is Finally Happening!

Evil Dead 4 to be written this summer says Sam Raimi
These days, when a high-profile remake is on the way, that usually means any hope for a sequel to the original is gone. Leave it to director Sam Raimi to buck the trend. The Oz: The Great and Powerful filmmaker revealed at a press event today that he still wants to make Evil Dead 4, even with the Evil Dead remake hitting theaters next month. Here's what he had to say

"I would love to make Evil Dead 4. My brother and I plan to work on the script this summer."

The brother he is likely referring to is Ivan Raimi, who co-wrote the screenplays for Army Of Darkness, Darkman, and Drag Me to Hell with Sam Raimi. His other brother, Ted Raimi is better known as an actor, who has a small role in Oz: The Great and Powerful and many of Sam Raimi's other films.

It isn't immediately clear if Bruce Campbell will return as Ash in Evil Dead 4, the iconic character he portrayed in Sam Raimi's trilogy The Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn, and Army Of Darkness, although it seems likely. He helped produce the Evil Dead remake along with Sam Raimi.

Army of Darkness 2 comes to theaters in 2016 and stars Bruce Campbell. The film is directed by Sam Raimi.

Wait, what? They just remade it, and now they're doing a sequel? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the original movies, but this comes off as very odd

    YES.
Wonder what the title will be though, since they f*cked up the titles with naming part 3 a different title.

I'd rather see a sequel than a reboot any day.

I just dont know if this is a thumbs up or thumbs down. It is a bewildering decision on the part of Raimi.

It's cool that Raimi is involved in both the "remake" and this sequel.

He should just make a completly new horror comedy with Campbell, instead of all of these sequels and reboots

@ROFLitschristian I get what you're saying, but then they could sort of reconsider the new one as a spinoff, rather than a remake. Campbell could just make an offhand comment about "other kids screwing around my cabin" and that would be all you need!

Dangit! I was just getting excited about the remake, now this sucks the life out of that enthusiasm!

Oh well, good problem to have!!

This sounds better than the remake, however I still want to see both maybe work on the 4th, who knows.

oh well. I guess since the reboot doesn't tie in with the original. Same events and all, but not characters

  18. ROFLitschristian

@ejk1 I honestly understand his point in doing the remake, but going forward with Evil Dead is what confuses me. I've never seen any of these films but I'm highly excited for Evil Dead. But won't this all kind of confuse anyone new entering the series, especially those who don't know Evil Dead is a remake? I think it's a little too late for 4.

Weird. Producing a remake of the original AND doing another sequel to the original. Crossing the franchise streams.

@SpaceCowboy Lol, actually the sequel being made is called "Bruce Vs. Frankenstein."

@narrator I think the point was he thought he could have made something better, ended up not doing so, and is going back to what works. Perhaps I'm wrong, but that is what I think.

  21. SpaceCowboy

@narrator I think the build-up to the remake is what got Sam interested in making a 4th.
