Mendes Negotiating to Direct Bond 23
We reported yesterday that the film was being put on hold, due to MGM's financial situation regarding a possible sale of the studio, but the film is moving forward regardless.
Mendes' involvement has put the film on the fast track to production, with filming to potentially start as early as June, targeting a 2011 release. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any more news surrounding James Bond 23 as soon as more information comes in.
Skyfall comes to theaters November 9th, 2012 and stars Ralph Fiennes, Daniel Craig, Helen McCrory, Javier Bardem, Tonia Sotiropoulou, Bérénice Marlohe, Judi Dench, Naomie Harris. The film is directed by Sam Mendes.

All I've gotta say is I laughed out loud in Quantum when he clotheslined that guy off his Vespa. That was awesome.

Oh and the franchise also needs great action but not over-the-top action. And yes, there is a difference.

To Insert: I agree. I would love to see Chris Nolan do a Bond film. He knows how to balance action with character development and also include a story which makes sense. But it will probably never happen.
I think Mendes might not be the 100% best choice but he should do pretty good. What the Bond franchise needs are great stories combined by great writing/acting. Forster isn't a bad director; action just isn't his strong suite.

It sucked as a sequel to Royale.
Zack Snyder is the wrong man for a Bond film, dude. I'd like to see Chris Nolan take a stab at it. Doubt it'll happen, though.

Gotta say, I don't understand the hate on Quantum. I thought that was a great movie.
I don't think Greengrass should ever come near a Bond film, not because he's bad, but because he would basically turn out a Bourne movie with Bond characters, and that's not what we need. Keep the franchises separate.
The Fallen: If you think previous generations of soldiers could "take more" you've clearly never studies the effects of war. Soldiers basically went crazy after WWI because of the things they experienced and the fact that there wasn't any proper therapy for them when they came back.

I'm not too into Sam Mendes though I liked Jarhead & American Beauty. I wanted to see Away We Go. I'm not really into the Daniel Craig-Bond series. Sam Mendes was able to get away with Jarhead due to it's limited action sequences so I don't think Bond 23 is up his alley.
A few directors who could only be capable of doing a Bond flick would be Stephen Gaghan, Len Wiseman, Zack Snyder (I have my reasons) or Nimrod Antal... there are others but I chose to list these.

Bond was revved up by Casino Royale and sh*t on again by Quantum of Solace.

James Bond is such a dated hero, it will be nice to see how it is revved up for today...in a post Bourne world.

Mis-match or not, Mendes is a wonderful director in my eyes. I've seen all his films except Away We Go, and I've truly enjoyed them all. Marc Forster isn't a bad director either, but I think the problem with Quantum of Solace (besides the lametastic title) had more to do with the script than his direction. Peter Morgan is writing this film as well - another "mis-match" as well - but also one of the finest writers working as well. This could be the smartest Bond flick yet.

Illuminati
Martin Campell made a few flaws in CASINO ROYALE, but overall it was a good change. He should have continued the next installment instead of Marc Foster who made a joke out of QUANTUM. Also it would have kept him from touching GREEN LANTERN(which concerns me greatly!)
Mark Foster also knew drama(KITE RUNNER) but QUANTUM showed that he clearly can't do an action film!
This is the same case with Mendes...His is a MIS-MATCH! He's never done an action film. Given he knows his dramas well; AMERICAN BEAUTY was great, and ROAD TO PERDITION was good. This is a huge risk
Someone suggested PAUL GREENGRASS, this is the perfect choice! Since all Foster did was copy the BOURNE style in QUANTUM give it to the man who can do it properly!

The Narrator: The Better Man
Uhm Josh, I have to be honest Jarhead was not a good film to me. I think it was overrated about a generation of pussies who get their minds tweaked at war when the generation before them and so on could take more horrid things better. That's just me.
I ma not a fan of Mendes. Sorry. But he might bring great character as one said, to this series. I agree Josh, Danny Boyle would have been an interesting choice, but we all know Campbell is too into GL to do anything else.

F*ck. The only good movies Mendes has made have been Road to Perdition and Jarhead. I was hoping to see Martin Campbell back, or someone interesting like Danny Boyle.

Mendes knows what he's doing. This could be good if he doesn't stick to the crapass Bond formula.
