Sacha Baron Cohen Sued Over Bruno Film Gag

While controversial comedian Sacha Baron Cohen is no stranger to lawsuits, his latest comes a month before his new film is even released. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a woman has filed a lawsuit seeking damages from an injury she allegedly sustained while Cohen was filming Bruno, which is due in theaters July 10.

Richelle Olson filed the suit in Lancaster, CA on May 22, claiming she was left disabled after an altercation with Cohen at a bingo game. The suit claims that Cohen used vulgar language and struggled for the microphone at the bingo game. Olson apparently fled to a nearby room where she hit her head on a concrete floor and now Olson must use either a wheelchair or a cane.

The lawsuit, filed against both Cohen and NBC Universal, is seeking $25,000 in damages. Reps for Cohen and the film's publicists did not return calls about the lawsuit.

Bruno was released July 10th, 2009 and stars Sacha Baron Cohen, Gustaf Hammarsten, Clifford BaƱagale, Chibundu Orukwowu, Chigozie Orukwowu, Josh Meyers, Toby Hoguin, Robert Huerta. The film is directed by Larry Charles.

stupid lady, if she ran away, and cohen didn't follow her, then hitting her head's her own fault. And that kinda injury doesn't tend to last forever (tinge of sarcasm there-ha). but being at a bingo game, then i guess she could be elderly, in which it would make more sense since anything sacha could do would catch elderly bingo players off guard, but still, she's probably in search of money.

$25,000??? If this were truly an injury so bad as to leave her needing to be in a wheelchair or use a cane, than she would be entitled to ALOT more money. The low amount says to me that it's a fake claim, so she's playing it safe by only asking for a small (I use that loosly) amount in the hopes that the studio will settle for what to them is nothing more than pocket change.

it's called a PUBLICITY STUNT people. It's a smart way to get exposure to the film. Even if the story is real, it's definitely SACHA's idea to go public with it :)

Good on him. :) Can't wait to see BRUNO

Was there a real reason to run? Was he chasing her? At some point of running it becomes your fault of what happens to you, especially when no one is chasing you.
