Ryan Shiraki to develop film version of Family Dancing
Story, first published in the New Yorker in 1983, revolves around a dysfunctional family forced to reunite for a graduation party.
The story became part of Leavitt's first story collection, by the same name, which was a finalist for both the National Book Critics Circle Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award.
The pic will be produced by Judd Payne and Matthew Rhodes of Persistent and Barry Quart of Starboard.
"It's a very character-driven, intergenerational drama told from the point of view of four family members, who range from 18 to 45," Shiraki said. "It's a piece that I think actors can really sink their teeth into."
