Ryan Reynolds Talks Deadpool

HitFix sat down with Ryan Reynolds for an interview, who is currently promoting his upcoming film The Proposal, and talked about the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine spin-off, Deadpool. Here is what he had to say:

"Well, I'm intimately involved with it. We're just trying to break a story right now and figure out who the villain is going to be and all that stuff. But, it's going to be just like the comic books. I'm gonna have a messed up face and you may see some flashbacks of Wade earlier in his life, but primarily what you see is what you get in the comics and that's the goal. And there is no better place to draw material from then the comics which are incredible."

No word on when production will begin, and 20th Century Fox has not set a release date for the film yet.

Deadpool is in development and stars Ryan Reynolds.

Oh, its crazy how much money it made no doubt. But, like I mentioned before look at "No Country for Old Men" people thought that movie was the sh*t, and it received so many awards for what was perceived as excellence from the Coen Brothers. But if you look at the film it's trite and pretentious, and some of the dialogue these guys say is so f*cking artificial, it's serves more of a purpose to be cheesy quote like "I'll be back" than work to develop the characters in the story. And why did every body give it so much respect, because it was the Coen Brothers return to what they do best, ultra violent noir. Because of that, one movie got so much attention over pure hype.

So how does this apply to the Dark Knight you ask? Well, lets ask first what makes it such a great comic book movie. Pure and simple the Joker. Thats it. Heath Ledgers performance was so on the spot, it made the movie worth watching just to see him come on the screen again. But, does that make it a good movie? F*ck no! It makes it a good performance, and everything surrounding him at his moment on screen seems to radiate in that same brilliance, masking its flaws and ridiculous nature. But if you take that away, take Heath Ledger out of the movie, If you look at the rest of the it, It's f*cking stupid. There's editing flaws, redundant themes that just become obnoxious after a while i.e. Alfred's nonsensical speeches, the character's are all one dimensional as f*ck, there's no real story development you just get dropped in the middle of this thing. I can go on and on, listing all the things that make it bad, and believe me, I of all people was hoping for the greatest comic book movie ever when I went to see it, but in the end was rudely disappointed. So my point to all of this is just because it made a sh*t load of money and had one well played and highly anticipated character, does not make it the best comic book movie ever, it makes it the most overhyped comic book movie ever, and no one wants to say different or discuss it serious flaws, cause they don't want to admit they were duped.

Delgren; If you didn't like THE DARK KNIGHT, i respect that. I do admit there were a few things that could have been done better.
Bruce's presence was underplayed, 2FACE's entrance & demise was premature.

But the film just made $1Billion. Only 3 other movies have done that in cinema history. So let's not bother talking about it's success or audience appeal, cause clearly it had both. Oh, and it is THE BEST COMIC FILM MADE SO FAR :)

MARVEL has tried harder with more variety to bring their films to life. DC needs to be picky with it's choices and careful with their directors.
I fear all MARVEL movies NOT made by MARVEL studios will be poor. WOLVERINE is the recent evidence of this. DEADPOOL will also be sh*te, sadly.

Yeah, your right tomorrow. None of the marvel movies i've seen so far can rank up to The Dark Knight, Spider man 2 comes close but no cigar, however, one film from DC, no matter how great it is doesn't overshadow the great success of what Marvel has put out.

If you mean not having taste as liking sh*t that sucks well then yes, I guess I have no taste Remy. As for the story Slim, there was none, it was jarring, non-sensical, and I don't know what development your talking about cause I saw no such thing through out the whole movie. The only thing I noticed was Alfred contradicting himself constantly with his lame ass inspirational monologues, and bruce wayne getting increasingly confused by them. Oh and Newskill I like my avatar the way it is douche bag, I'm the f*cking shadowy man!

the ONLY reason deadpool was in WOLVERINE was to introduce the character, just like half the others in the film. they played no other purpose! It was horrible.

I like Wade in the comics, and Renolds is the man to play the merc with the mouth. but if this film is in the same vien as WOLVERINE(the last fight scene sent us back 10 years to MORTAL COMBAT),So this movie will be
MORTAL COMBAT + BLADE TRINITY = DONEKY BALLS!

Ok sry Newkill I messed up in the beginging.Since where really getting into this look at the facts.I understand what you said about MARVEL beating DC.But I have a question can any & I do mean any marvel movie even rank up to the dark knights numbers.Even with the disappointments from DC.DC Stole the lead with just 1 movie.Deadpool will damn sure resemble Blade in someway or another just because it's the closest thing to it.But beyond that who knows.T

I agree with Slim. When I watched Dark Knight, I forgot I was watching a superhero movie. Not many comic book movies can play themselves out the way DK did, action but the drama/storyline was extremely top notch.

ok delgren you have no taste, so dont talk. i agree with some of what everyone is saying, i thought The Dark knight was brilliant, X-men origins wolverine was f*cking nuts, so if they back this film up with a good story and directing, i got no problem with it.

but, slim, for the eight oscars Dark Knight was nominated for, it won only two supporting actor and sound editing. It didn't win for best visual effects which Spider Man 2 did. And Iron Man was also nominated. But the awards doesn't mean sh*t, really. Maybe if Dark Knight was nominated for best picture, then you might have had something but no.

But I have a feeling that this Deadpool film will go into development hell. It's not going to be made. If it is, i'll really be surprised.

Delgren, two reasons why The Dark Knight is considered one of the greatest films ever made. For one, the story was amazing, outside of the fact that it's a comic book character makes it even better and is something not many filmmakers can do. Secondly, it explores the process of growth in personality to overcome obstacles and making the decision to understand what point you have reached in life. That is something that happens with everyday people.

I see your point Newkill and I agree. Marvel is in the top billing but what Marvel movie was nominated for eight Oscars? Or even one? The thing with DC right now is the fact that Watchmen isn't as popular with general audiences like Batman and Superman. I personally think that Watchmen did so well is solely based on Rorschach. I love Watchmen but maybe if they had released during the summer film season it would attract more attention like Batman Begins.

I do believe that this Deadpool film will be made similar to the Blade series. I mean the characters are somewhat similar (if any notices the similarities) so possibly. I like David Goyer so maybe he will work on the film like he did the Blade trilogy.

    You never know...

I'm tired of hearing how great the dark knight was. It was literally the biggest sack of sh*t I'd ever seen. Every time I see some one watching it or its playing at Best Buy, I walk away cause its so dumb and poorely done. I cant bear to watch. And yet everyone thinks its the greatest comic movie ever. Well f*ck that sh*t. That story was garbage. The only thing of any real presence in that movie was Joker and so every body praises it, but for what, thats it, one character? Bruce Wayne sucked, Alfred was ridiculous, and Harvey Dent was just plain dumb. This is just another case of 'The Emperor Wears No Clothes'. Just because the first one was awesome, every one has to praise the second. Same sh*t happened with 'No Country for Old Men'. No one wanted to say sh*t cause it was the Coen Brothers. Well, news flash, that sucked too. In my eyes the only two movies out of DC to not be a sack of turd, was Batman Begins and The Watchmen, everything else sucked.

Tomorrow, i'm confused. First you said its not even as much as it made then you say it broke every record, where basically your repeating the same thing, because the record still involves the box office. If you look at it from , then to now, Marvel has clearly dominated DC. I mean come on Catwoman, Steel with Shaq, the Batman Forever, Batman & Robin. And another interesting thing is that throughout those bad Superman sequels and Batman sequels, DC really broke ground in movies before Marvel, when Marvel was just putting out little low, low budget sh*t like the Captain America movie. DC was only good back then because they really didn't have to compete with Marvel. That was until Blade came out that truly broke ground for Marvel. Blade came out in 98 and DC was still struggling after that whole Batman and Robin ordeal. And DC wasn't seen again until 2004, where Marvel was putting out good blockbuster movies. DC only had one movie out of 2004 and that was Catwoman, that went up against Marvel's best Spider Man 2. Now, i must admit DC did own 2005 with Batman Begins, because Marvel was sh*t in that year. In 06, Xmen 3 grossed more than Superman Returns. And then DC didn't have an 07 movie, where Marvel had three just spitting out the mouth. Now, even though, Dark Knight was the greatest comic book movie ever made. Come on be serious, when it came to Marvel and Dc, you know Marvel came up more, because if you would talk about how great DC was that year, then you would have to bring up the Spirit, which sucked ass. All you could talk about from DC would be the Dark Knight. If you bring up Marvel, then Iron Man and the incredible Hulk comes up. Now, I'm not hating on DC or anything like that. I love DC. I loved Watchmen way more than i like Wolverine, but really when it comes down to it, Marvel is still in the lead.

But Newkill I have 2 disagree w/u.Its not even as much as it made.It destroyed just about every record set by a movie. And was the movie of 2008.Despite the yr of Iron man & the incredible hulk.dc is still in the until the avengers, thor, deadpool, captain america & iron man 2 come out.&x-men:first class.Still DC has green lantern on the way which will be huge.Man of steel, another batman sequel.the justice league which in the works.so yea will see

  20. Newkill3000

But Slim, I have to disagree. As much as the Dark Knight made, Marvel is still in the lead. Come on, Iron Man, Spider man and X men, even though the last ones sucked. The Spirit from DC was a huge disappoint. And as of now, Jonah Hex is the only for sure movie being made by DC.

I don't think it will bomb, but i seriously doubt it will be any good. I've seen too many of these 20th Century Fox comic books movies that really fail in quality. Maybe when Marvel Studios gets the rights back to their movies, we'll be able to see better films.

I do not think it will bomb by any stretch, it probably will not do as well as Wolverine (now at over $315 million worldwide), but I think Deadpool has a big enough following to do okay at the box office.
