Russell Crowe Is Both the Sheriff and Robin Hood in Nottingham

Russell Crowe is playing both the Sheriff of Nottingham (as previously reported) and also taking the role of Robin Hood in Nottingham, director Ridley Scott told MTV News during a Body of Lies interview.

According to the director himself:
“He’s playing both!” [Ridley Scott told] exclusively to MTV News during an interview for his new film “Body of Lies,” which co-stars Crowe. While Scott held additional details close to his chest — saying they would take too long to describe — he did exclaim that Crowe’s dual roles would be “a good old clever adjustment of characters. One becomes the other. It changes.”

Sienna Miller has already been cast as Maid Marian in the film, which was recently put on hold to work on the current version of the screenplay.

Nottingham was readying for a mid-August start date in London. No new production date has emerged.

Robin Hood was released May 14th, 2010 and stars Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Max von Sydow, William Hurt, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac, Danny Huston, Eileen Atkins. The film is directed by Ridley Scott.

If they are one in the same then it should be cool, but if they make the Sheriff and Robin long lost Twin brothers or some Jackie Chan, Jean Claude Van-Dam horse sh*t like that then I will sit this one out.

    ...
I don't know how to react to such news. Maybe Robin Hood is the Sheriff's alter ego? Who knows? Just don't expect this to be very faithful to the stories...

Given how American Gangster was a bust, and Body of Lies looks terribly bland, I fear that Ridley Scott is making films just for the sake of making films (and making money)... With Crowe playing two major roles, of which the confrontation between the two is a major plot line in the tale of Robin Hood, how can we expect Sheriff of Nottingham v. Robin Hood scenes? This takes away considerable drama from the story... Expect it to be 2.5 hours of good cinematography and boring storytelling.
