Russell Crowe has emerged as the leading contender for Warner Bros. remake
Our initial report cited that Beyonce was circling the project and this new story from the Times indicates that, while Beyonce hasn't officially signed on, her interest in the project has grown and still could star. While an offer hasn't gone out to Crowe yet, it was said that the actor was very interested in starring in the film. It was said that Sean Penn and Robert Downey Jr. were also considered by the studio.
The story, written by Will Fetters, will center on a former music legend-turned-alcoholic, who begins to mentor a young female singer, who he then starts falling for. It was also reported that director Nick Cassavettes has entered into negotiations to direct the film.
A Star is Born was released December 17th, 1976 and stars Barbra Streisand, Kris Kristofferson, Gary Busey, Oliver Clark, Venetta Fields, Clydie King, Marta Heflin, M.G. Kelly. The film is directed by Frank Pierson.

This sounds great. Another Russell Crowe movie that will make $5. He should team with Ridley Scott and they can relive the success of A GOOD YEAR. At last count that movie made a nickel.
