Deadline New York is reporting that Russell Brand (Get Him to the Greek) is joining the cast of Hawkwood.

The film is an action comedy that's been picked up by 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment. Jared Stern is going to write the script for this film.

The actor is going to play the title role in this tale that follows the adventures of "real-life swashbuckling figure, John Hawkwood. A morally challenged but gifted swordsman, Hawkwood was paid to lead various European armies during the Renaissance wars."

Brand will also be producing this project.
