According to Deadline New York, director Rupert Wyatt (The Escapist) is developing 20th Century Fox's Planet of the Apes: Caesar prequel. Wyatt will also be directing.

Presently there is no production start date for this screenplay by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

There are no plot details for the new reboot, but the previous (post Burton) attempt featured genetic experiments on apes that led to their evolutionary eclipse of humans. Caesar refers to the genetically altered leader of the simian rebellion, so dubbed because the ape was capable of grand strategic thinking on par with Julius Caesar.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released August 5th, 2011 and stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Tyler Labine, Jamie Harris. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt.

A prequel, methinks that it's stupid. But on the other hand it might be good.

I still love the original Planet of the Apes series of movies. I'm up for seeing a new prequel, but not familiar with Rupert Wyatt's work... hopefully, he will do the property justice.
