Rupert Sanders Considers Directing 'Van Helsing'

The filmmaker may opt to make this picture instead of a sequel to 'Snow White and the Huntsman'.

Rupert Sanders had a successful directorial feature debut with this summer's Snow White and the Huntsman, which took in nearly $400 million worldwide for Universal Pictures. However, that success was marred in scandal after it was revealed the married filmmaker was having an affair with his star Kristen Stewart. Today, we have word that the director is in early talks to make Universal's Van Helsing remake, instead of Snow White and the Huntsman 2.

Nothing is set in stone yet, although it is believed that the studio wants to continue working with the director, but bringing him back for the sequel may be too controversial for the studio's liking. However, we reported in August that Kristen Stewart will not return for the sequel, with the follow-up reportedly focusing on Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman character. It seems that Universal is seeking a fresh start for the franchise, in front of and behind the camera.

We reported in May that Tom Cruise is attached to star in the Van Helsing reboot, with Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman providing the screenplay. It is believed that this may be Tom Cruise's next project, after he wraps on All You Need Is Kill.

Van Helsing is in development .

@mka47 But yes I agree. Viggo would be brilliant for that.

@mka47 i read it in high school and then again last halloween. It seemed fitting. The novel is set up as a series of journal entries which is interesting since you get the POV of all the major characters. It is old but its worth a read if your ever in the mood for classic horror.

@mka47 ah yes I had seen that they were making that movie and was very happy to hear it. Those chapters are by far my favorite in the novel.

Although it had its faults, SWatH was one beautiful looking movie. This guy is undoubtedly very talented and I look forward to seeing how his future projects turn out.

@SherlockHolmes2009 I agree, the Van Helsing character is intruiging. I would b emore interested in the "Last voyage of the Demeter"

That was one of the creepiest parts of the Dracula novel.

@john-m thats not saying much. Stephen Sommers is not a great director. I dont have a lot of hopes for this but a new director and more a serious take on the subject would be very nice.
