Gangster Squad director Ruben Fleischer has come aboard to direct and executive produce Warner Bros.' languishing video game adaptation Spy Hunter.

We last reported on the project back in March 2010, when the studio was lining up this adaptation from a screenplay by Chad St. John (Motor City). Warner Bros. is now currently seeking new writers to tackle a second draft. Dan Lin and Roy Lee were attached to produce in 2010, although it isn't known if they are still involved.

The Bally Midway video game was an arcade staple when it debuted in 1983. The story follows a government agent tasked with eliminating rogue spies, with the help of his souped-up car. The project was first set up at Universal nearly a decade ago, with Dwayne Johnson set to star and John Woo directing. Paul W.S. Anderson was attached to direct a few years later, before opting out to make the 2007 action-thriller Death Race.

Spy Hunter is in development .

I have the Spy Hunter game for ps2, and even though the game sucked, I still think this will be a very entertaining movie if The Rock comes back on board.

Doesn't sound like this movie will turn out much different from 007 or Mission Impossible. Doesnt need to be made into a movie

I am not sure how they are going to make a movie about this... I worry it will feel like Speed Racer meets death race... I rather just pull out the Nintendo and play the game myself
