Rooney Mara is in final negotiations to join the Untitled Spike Jonze Project. The Oscar-nominated actress will replace Carey Mulligan, who was forced to bow out due to scheduling difficulties.

We first reported on this project last March, when it was believed that Spike Jonze will direct from a screenplay by Charlie Kaufman. Now it seems Spike Jonze will direct from his own screenplay, which revolves around a man who falls in love with a computer's voice.

Megan Ellison is financing the project through her Annapurna Pictures company. Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams, and Samantha Morton are also attached to star.

If Rooney Mara's deal is finalized, she will begin work on the untitled project after wrapping on Steven Soderbergh's The Bitter Pill.

Untitled Spike Jonze Project comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Joaquin Phoenix, Rooney Mara, Amy Adams, Samantha Morton. The film is directed by Spike Jonze.

Would rather have seen Mulligan, but I'm glad they got someone of the same caliber to fill the void. Plus it's Joaquin Phoenix, so I'm in regardless.
