Room 237 Trailer

IFC Midnight has unveiled the first trailer for Room 237, arriving simultaneously in theaters and on VOD formats (Cable VOD, iTunes, Sundance Now, Amazon Streaming, XBOX and more) March 29. Director Rodney Ascher's documentary explores the phenomena of The Shining's cult following, more than 30 years after the Stanley Kubrick classic was released in theaters. Take a look at the first footage from this upcoming documentary, which showcases the bizarre conspiracies that have surfaced about The Shining's "hidden messages."

After the box office failure of Barry Lyndon, Stanley Kubrick decided to embark on a project that might have more commercial appeal. The Shining, Stephen King's biggest critical and commercial success yet, seemed like a perfect vehicle. After an arduous production, Kubrick's film received a wide release in the summer of 1980; the reviews were mixed, but the box office, after a slow start, eventually picked up. End of story? Hardly. In the 30 years since the film's release, a considerable cult of Shining devotees has emerged, fans who claim to have decoded the film's secret messages addressing everything from the genocide of Native Americans to a range of government conspiracies. Rodney Ascher's wry and provocative Room 237 fuses fact and fiction through interviews with cultists and scholars, creating a kaleidoscopic deconstruction of Kubrick's still-controversial classic.

Room 237 was released March 29th, 2013 and stars Bill Blakemore, Geoffrey Cocks, Juli Kearns, John Fell Ryan, Jay Weidner, Buffy Visick, Scatman Crothers, Tom Cruise. The film is directed by Rodney Ascher.

Nothing new, although I can't wait to see it. All of Kubrick's films are laden with these hidden messages. The films themselves serve merely as allegories to tell the real stories he wanted to tell, which lay beneath the surface of what you see transpiring on-screen.

As far as The Shining is concerned, it all has to do with conspiracy theories that Kubrick filmed the moon landing, which has quickly become the most popular theory among moon landing conspiracy theorists.

I think it was just a really creepy movie done very, very well..period. I just want to know, why the hell Jack was in the picture at the end. Was he reincarnated, or did the ghosts add his image to the picture?
