The 1984 romantic action comedy Romancing the Stone will be remade as a new TV series for NBC and executive producer/director Shawn Levy.

The Forgotten creator Mark Friedman will write the pilot script, which centers on a successful woman who teams up with an adventurer on weekly missions. Her ultimate goal is to find her missing brother. The Romancing the Stone movie starred Kathleen Turner as the successful woman and Michael Douglas as the risk-taker.

20th Century Fox Television will produce the new show, with Shawn Levy and Marty Adelstein executive producing through their 21 Laps Entertainment banner.

We reported last week that 20th Century Fox is eyeing Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl for a movie remake of Romancing The Stone. It isn't known if this movie project is still moving forward with a TV reboot also in the works.

Romancing the Stone was released March 30th, 1984 and stars Michael Douglas, Kathleen Turner, Danny DeVito, Zack Norman, Alfonso Arau, Manuel Ojeda, Holland Taylor, Mary Ellen Trainor. The film is directed by Robert Zemeckis.
