Roger Ebert's Syndicated Television Show Still on Hold
Ebert stated, in a letter that was published by the Sun-Times yesterday, that he is looking forward to his Ebertfest Film Festival later this month and he added that, "I will resume writing movie reviews shortly thereafter." Ebert also said that while he is cancer-free, he has no plans for further surgery, which leaves his status on Ebert & Roeper in limbo.
The 10th annual Ebertfest will run from April 23-27 at the University of Illinois and will feature 13 films along with appearances from writer/director Paul Schrader, Tom DiCillo and U of I alumnus Ang Lee.

This is a tragedy on many levels - I am sad for Mr. Ebert and his family. He's an excellent writer and knows about and loves movies. The travesty in all of this is that we are still stuck with the awful Richard Roeper, an ineffective, a terrible writer, a poor speaker, a quote gusher, and a dullard on camera. He knows very little about movies and is just coasting on his luck in replacing Siskel. It's really disgraceful that Mr. Ebert won't be rejoining the show. At least Michael Phillips is around and he's excellent and puts Roeper to shame minute by minute. I am really sad for the Ebert family and for movie fans in America.
