Robocop Wants Chris Pine

Chris Pine is the front runner to play RoboCop for MGM
With MGM's financial troubles behind them, the studio is focusing on the spate of remakes and sequels they have in the pipeline. One of those projects is RoboCop, and it seems the studio is eyeing Chris Pine for the lead role.

Back in April, we reported that actors such as Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and Keanu Reeves were being considered for the lead role. Now it seems the studio wants a younger leading man with Chris Pine, although an official offer has not been made to the actor quite yet. Chris Pine is only 30 years old, while Tom Cruise, Johnny Depp, and Keanu Reeves are all in their late 40s.

José Padilha is directing RoboCop from a screenplay by Joshua Zetumer. It still isn't known if Joshua Zetumer has completed a screenplay draft yet, or when MGM is looking to start production.

RoboCop comes to theaters August 9th, 2013 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman. The film is directed by José Padilha.

@Salem6777 My bad... "Kristen" Stewart. You should check out the independent movie "Small Town Saturday Night" featuring Chris. He played a serious role and did a great job. I'm sure he'll have no prob finding smart ass roles, but he's got the chops to venture into other areas.

@Salem6777 If memory serves me, since it's been awhile since I've seen Weller's performance but I think that would make Reeves perfect for the role actually!

I really want this to be a decent reboot but it was kind of cheese-tastic to begin with and in the wrong hands...well we have seen what happens in the past.

I don't know what it is, but this just doesn't seem like a role that Cruise, Depp or Pine would go for . I could see Keanu signing on for the role, but the others I think are just wishful marketing thinking on the part of MGM.

Not into Roboots, but this is one movie that if done right could open up a new franchise for Robo. I know Bale is Batman, but i think he would make a good Robocop. But Pine seems like he will do a good job, people always think otherwise when they cast a new fresh face ( just look at Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man and so on). And by the one i know alot of people don't like Reeves, but i do.

@bane5000 - And yes Bane5000, lets hope they keep this rated R and not try to sell it with a Happy meal.

@narrator - It hasn't been released, he just made the graphic novel to show studios how Noah would work.

@narrator...same here man, heres to hoping Aronofsky can get back on this project, any idea who the hell this director they got is, or did the just do the ole name out of a hat trick?

and this movie better be rated R, no PG-13 , no half ass, remake crap weve seen of recent " remakes" , it better be as graphic and violent as the original, if not...Lets just all stick with the original , i say...

@Salem6777 Lol...that was a jab at Christian "Wanna Be Johnny Depp" Stewart. He's a superb actor, I just think that Chris Pine is a up and coming great actor, and stead of going with the usual suspects it's nice to see a fresh face being chosen.

@narrator Not yet, but I will before I see the movie. Pretty sure I got some spare time before then.

@ejk1 I'm picturing Bale with a big, bushy beard doing all that. Looks epic.

  22. Dan

@ejk1 Haha, yeah. I love that style, actually. It's sort of like Aronofsky's trademark now. This time it'll be as he's building the ark, and going floor to floor on it :P

I honestly don't care. Robocop bored the hell out of me. @dan1 You're correct. Noah is not based on the Bible, but rather a graphic novel.

@addiction-non-fatal did u just insult johnny depp?

    11 months agoby @Salem6777Flag

  27. Dan

@narrator Yeah, whether he does come back to this project or not (prob not), I still want Noah to be successful. I'm a big fan of biblical epics (even though, yes, it doesn't sound to be cribbing much from the source), and we could use another one.

  28. ADDICTION NON-FATAL

Great choice! I'd rather it be Chris Pine then uh lets say Keanu "Whoa" Reeves, Tom Cruise or Johnny "I have a female impersonator named Christian Stewart" Depp. If chosen, no doubt he'll pull it off!

  29. The Narrator: The Better Man

@bane5000, @dan1, totally. Let's hope that Noah is a huge hit, both critically and financially, and that this project is delayed until then. Then we'd really be in for a treat, providing the man is still interested. :P
