Jose Padilha in talks to direct Robocop remake for MGM
Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky had previously been attached to direct the reboot, before the studio shelved all of their projects due to their bankruptcy proceedings. However, after Darren Aronofsky took on The Wolverine directing job, he became unavailable since MGM wants to make this their first major project under the new studio leadership.
Robocop first hit theaters in 1987, starring Peter Weller as Alex J. Murphy, a Detroit cop who survives a near-death experience and becomes a new half-man, half-robot crime fighter known as Robocop. The action-adventure spawned two sequels with Robocop 2 in 1990 and RoboCop 3 in 1993.
No production schedule was revealed for the RoboCop remake.
RoboCop comes to theaters August 9th, 2013 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman. The film is directed by José Padilha.
Robocop was released January 1st, 1987 and stars Peter Weller, Nancy Allen, Dan O'Herlihy, Ronny Cox, Kurtwood Smith, Miguel Ferrer, Robert DoQui, Ray Wise. The film is directed by Paul Verhoeven.

the first films were awful, Frank Millers vision ruined in my opinion

yes, leave it alone. Just digitize the first film and re-release it into the theaters. If the studio wants more money, this is the way to go instead of remaking films.

Well there goes that remake!!! What a shame they aren't sticking with Aronofsky.
I lived in New Zealand for a year and a half and during that time I lived with several Brazilian's who made me watch Elite Squad......and it was not good........at all.
Its pretty clear that MGM is now just brushing this remake aside like it doesn't care about it's integrity. They know that as long as it carries the "Robocop" name, its going to make at least some money.
What a shame! This reminds me of when FOX brushed X-MEN Origins: Wolverine off to that no talent ass clown, Gavin Hood and we all know what a disgrace that movie was.

What is wrong with these reboots or remakes is the decision to hire some unknow directors to shoot it and hoping to make some money, for the studios, is a safe investment, but for all the fans out there, their favourite movies or classics has been tampered with and that is very disrepectful !

Oh they're screw this one over. They'll hire some big, beefy action guy - which will completely against the grain of what Robocop was all about.

leave Robo alone, this is to classic of an 80's movie to remake, and it made sense back then to make something futuristic as this, now a days it will not

I've heard a lot of great things about Padilha, but I can't imagine this without Aronofsky.
