RoboCop begins production this weekend in Toronto
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Their drones are winning American wars around the globe and now they want to bring this technology to the home front. Alex Murphy (Kinnaman) is a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit. After he is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp utilizes their remarkable science of robotics to save Alex's life. He returns to the streets of his beloved city with amazing new abilities, but with issues a regular man has never had to face before.
Commenting on the announcement, Padilha said, "It's exciting to think that we're going to be starting production on RoboCop. I have a dream cast and an incredibly creative production team, and we are all supremely dedicated, working together to make a movie that will not only live alongside the first film but also break new ground, be relevant for modern audiences, and stand on its own."
Luís Carvalho is the Director of Photography. The production designer is Martin Whist. The editor is Daniel Rezende. Costume Designer is April Ferry. VFX Supervisor is James E. Price.
RoboCop comes to theaters February 7th, 2014 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Keaton, Jay Baruchel, Michael K. Williams. The film is directed by José Padilha.

@mieko-siede They seem to really be making decisions to make it good! The cast alone is jaw dropping!!! Steve Jablonsky is who I think should take the music... Either that or Klaus Badelt... I think this is going to turn out pretty good!

@mcleve02 I was intrigued from the start. RoboCop in itself was ahead of its time and quite ambitious when we first saw it in 85. It's still classic when we watch it now but today we can do so many things with it having a firmer understanding of technology and the possibilities of where it can go. Not only will it be rich visually but there is a chance that the story and depth can be even grander. There are certain classics, cult and otherwise, that I like to see newer takes on just to see how they can be expanded for today's audience. I'm stoked for this, good or bad.

Maybe this will bring MGM back on their feet and allow them to consider to bring back the Stargate franchise.
