The actor will play Maddox, who gives this crime-fighting cyborg (Joel Kinnaman) military training before RoboCop goes out to clean up the mean streets of Detroit. Actor Jay Baruchel is reportedly circling one of the final lead roles, although no specific character details were given. The cast also includes Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, and Hugh Laurie. The official synopsis that was released last week at Comic-Con reveals this reboot is set in the year 2029.
José Padilha is directing from a screenplay written by Joshua Zetumer. Production is scheduled to begin later this summer in Toronto.
Jackie Earle Haley was last seen in Dark Shadows, and also stars in Steven Spielberg's Lincoln, opening November 9.
RoboCop comes to theaters February 12th, 2014 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Keaton, Jay Baruchel, Michael K. Williams. The film is directed by José Padilha.
