Robert Rodriguez to Direct Sin City 2 After Spy Kids 4?

Bruce Willis could return in Sin City 2
Bruce Willis could return in Sin City 2
The Playlist took part in a live Facebook chat with director Robert Rodriguez, who said that the long-awaited Sin City 2 will be his next movie after Spy Kids 4: All the Time in the World. Here's an excerpt from the article, which also revealed that this will only happen if the script is ready in time:

"Frank Miller and I are working on it," Rodriguez said, with one caveat. "It's slated to be the next one, but if the script is not ready, then we'll have to move to the next one."

Robert Rodriguez wouldn't reveal which movie, "the next one" will be, although he did indicate that one of his other future projects, Nervewracker is, "still going to happen."

Although Bruce Willis' character, Hartigan, did die in Sin City, Rodriguez also indicated that he wants to bring the character back for Sin City 2:

"I wanna bring him back for Sin City because he's so bad-ass."

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For comes to theaters October 4th, 2013.

Question: Why is Rodriguez doing another Spy Kids movie?

Question: Why hasn't he done Sin City 2 yet?

Question: Why would you not do Sin City 2 before a fourth Spy Kids movie?

    Question: Rodriguez....... Why?

Now this is damn fantastic, finally official plans are being made. Hopefully he can still get Angelina Jolie to star in it, She would look so bad ass in this Movie. But hopefully I'll just hope nothing goes wrong.

Dude, the reason he made Shark Boy and Lava Girl was for love of his son. I remember Rodriguez on either Leno or Letterman talking about how he was going to make a movie about characters his son invented called Shark Boy and Lava Girl. You can't fault him for that- he put family first. I'm not saying he is the greatest, but to put him with the dregs, Boll in particular, just doesn't seem right to me.

  6. The Narrator: The Better Man

@ejk, Desperado was entertaining, sure. Hell I own the dvd and watch it every now and then. But the "El Mariachi" series has a pretty non-continuous timeline. Nor is it anything amazing as a trilogy. Also, The Spy Kids films were cheestastic crap. Entertaining? Sure, I guess. There are FAR better childrens tales out there. But thats your opinion, I can't help it.

However, what you have to agree on, is that the guy has a huge ego, and not much to show for it. He takes on pathetic "original" projects like Spy Kids, Shorts, and Shark Boy and Lava Girl, when films like Sin City await. Come on! I used to think the guy was okay, but that opinion has definitely changed.

Also, Predators was a concept of his, which he'd written back in the 90's. Sicne then, writers has taken the idea, and modified it to the final product of this summers film, which he only produced/oversaw. He deserves as much credit in that film as Spielberg does in Transformers (as an overseer/producer). Maybe a little more. Overall, he really doesn't deserve all the love. Nor should he ever touch Deadpool.

I really liked Sin City, I enjoyed Predators and From Dusk til Dawn. He's an okay director, but Im in no hurry to pay to see one of his films.

Just finish Spy Kids so you can get to work on Sin City. Don't change the story around though, just stick with the graphic novels. And he is a hell of a better filmmaker than Boll.

  13. The Narrator: The Better Man

@K-Man, agreed. The guy is so f*cking egotistical with hardly a good movie to show for it. Sin City is probably the only exception, and it was due to Miller having semi-tight reigns on him. The two balanced each other out, so I am looking forward to the sequel. Have been for years... but nope. Personally, I think he is just as pathetic as Uwe Boll and Brett Ratner.

And people who think he should helm Deadpool don't know sh*t about either of them! He will twist DP into something terrible. Seriously. Just film SC and retire!

Great! Just keep him distracted doing sh*tty movies that I will NEVER watch and keep him away from potentially great (as long as he doesn't touch them) films like Deadpool!

Robert Rodriguez is a plague of the Hollywood system, anything he touches is guaranteed to fail!

instead of directing his family based Spy films, he should have had someone else direct it and still have his name in it. Sin 2 should have been his first focus.

Direct it BEFORE the stupid Spy Kids!!

Why doesn't he just skip Spy Kids 4? Is anyone really clamoring for more Spy Kids? I don't even think kids are...or spies...and that's the fan base.

Brit murphy is dead and I was hoping she still had a little part in the movie, but it seem you still haven't film it yet so now I hope you can find the next crazy blonde who can fill that role.

Why the hell does he think the world needs "SK4" anyway? "SC" is far more intriguing visually, and plotwise. It's been 5yrs, and now he's making room for "SK4," but says he'll shelve "SC2" yet again if the script isn't ready. WTF? It's been 5yrs and a few failed attempts. Why doesn't he value the project enough to make room for it???

bout freakin time!! though im not sure i like the idea of bringing a dead character back. it means that they have to make up a story that didnt exist to begin with in the graphic novels. and honestly i didnt think he was all that badass to begin with. marv, yes. dwight, yes. hartigan, no, not really. but we'll see what happens.
