Robert Rodriguez Offered to Direct Deadpool

Rodriguez to direct Deadpool?
Rodriguez to direct Deadpool?
Director Robert Rodriguez certainly has a lot on his plate lately and now it seems that 20th Century Fox could add another project to his slate. The Playlist confirmed a report from Production Weekly that Rodriguez has been given an offer to direct Deadpool.

We reported back in January that Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were hired to write the screenplay for the film, but this is the first we've heard about a director being offered the job. Ryan Reynolds is on board to portray the title character, reprising his role from last year's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

It was said that the studio has only offered the job to Rodriguez and he hasn't decided if he will take the job or not, although the site said he was considering the gig. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any further details on Robert Rodriguez's involvement with Deadpool as soon as we have more information.

Deadpool is in development and stars Ryan Reynolds.

@The Fallen I agree RR is overvalued in some aspects, and maybe chokes on his ego once in a while, but who knows his feelings towards the Deadpool character? None of us on this site have a clue about his motivation towards the Wade Wilson character.
I truly am excited to hear he's listening to the pitch for this film. id rather have a big name director attempt this film than someone like Gavin Hood (We saw where that went in Origins) who obviously lacked a firm grasp of anything comic book related. Like RR said about the Fire and Ice project, its good to work with the original artists/writers when adapting animation or comics. Im sure he'd reach out to Deadpool's original writer.
Feel good about it Fallen. It's ok. I know it's almost too good to be true.

  5. The Narrator: The Better Man

@Dedpool and @Mast_chief, I have seen those films. No doubt he is a fun director, but he just likes his own ideas too much, and isn't really one to adapt a possible franchise. And make no mistake if Deadpool is adapted right, it WILL be a franchise.

Why not get a talented, possibly lesser known director, one who actually knows and loves Deadpool and let him work his magic. Let RR get back to his precious Jetsons and Spy Kids films. Sure betting on an unknown is a risk, but Rodriguez is more of a risk. Without Miller co-directing Sin City, he would have veered off course. He has too much pride in himself, and no matter what, he will try to incorporate some of his iconic guest actors and RR banter, that will make it silly or inappropriate. Thats a bigger risk.

Overall, you guys give the man far too much credit.

I hope, if he takes it, he can fix the f*ck up they did with Wade in wolverine - just thinking about it pisses me off

This could be awesomely violent. If Rodriguez did it there's no way they would get off without an R rating.

go with red sonja, nope, sin city 2/3, nope, go with shorts, f*cker, go with predators, only producer, then you soing sin city, nope machete, you doing anything to do with sin city, nope, sky kids 4, now this, it would work, but he keeps changing hism ind, and replasing good ideas with low standard bob tosh like spy kids never gunna happen this or sin city

Robert Rodriguez would be a great choice for this film, hell he should have taken on Wolverine instead of that other director. At least he's got style and guts.
I know he has done some terrible watchable films but in the long run, he's dark and disturbing. If he applied himself to PJ's level he would be unstoppable.

@Dedpool Im w/ u man. "Once upon a time..." was the first film I thought of when I read this news. I liked Planet terror, but realize it wasnt great. It just had some strange replay value for me. Didnt like the end, but w/e... R.Rodriguez should seriously take the studio up on this offer. Maybe they think they can low ball the budget cus RR has made some solid flicks with limited budgets in the past. Idk. This is the best (rumored) movie news Ive heard in a while. Deadpool is a Rodriguez character. he could create a serious franchise out if this. No more F*cking Spy Kids hombre. Please!!!

  14. Dedpool

@ The Fallen- Planet Terror and From Dusk Til Dawn weren't his best films, but the ones closest to the feel of "Deadpool" would be the "El Mariachi" trilogy. IF you look at "Desparado" and "Once Upon a Time in Mexico" especially, this is right up his alley.

Tarantino is my favorite director of all time, but the fact is, he doesnt share the visual mind that this film deserves. Still, I would like to see what Tarantino could do with a superhero film. But yeah @The Fallen @Masta_Chiefed I read that about QT as well.

I think R2 would do okay with this film, as long as he isnt busy on a "Shorts" or "Spy Kids" Sequel...oh wait...

Deadpool is my favorite Comic character next to Spider-Man (Pre-Raimi F*ck Up), and I am very interested in seeing Reese and Werner getting the job done. They are just the two to do it

@masta_chef, I read the same thing.

@IamBATMAN, sorry, but those movies were just decent in my opinion. Fun, but nothing on a Deadpool movies caliber. You guys give the man too much praise.

  19. Masta_Chiefed

Yeah Ive read a Tarantino interview where he said he'd only do a super hero film if it was his own original idea.

  20. ZanyZap

Tarantino wouldn't touch the script. However, an original QT superhero would be f*cking amazing.

As for Rodriguez directing Deadpool, I'm not invested in the character enough to actually care, but I'm sure he'd do the story justice. He's good - give the man some credit.
