According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie takes its cue from a forthcoming comic book that producer Lionel Wigram wrote as a selling tool for a new take on the classic character. The concept sees Holmes as more adventurous and less stuffy than previous screen incarnations and mines more obscure character traits.
Warners' Holmes project will have to contend with Columbia's Sherlock Holmes, this one starring Sacha Baron Cohen as the sleuth and Will Ferrell as his sidekick Dr. Watson. Judd Apatow is producing the comedy, which does not yet have a director attached.
Production will start in the fall. Warner is looking at an October 2009 release.
Sherlock Holmes was released December 25th, 2009 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Rachel McAdams, Mark Strong, Eddie Marsan, Robert Maillet, Geraldine James, Kelly Reilly. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie.

Guy Ritchie and Robert Downey Jr. together in this setting is going to make for one great movie. Columbia, Apatow,Cohen and Ferrell all put together are no contest.

Robert Downey Jr. is the Sh*t. Glad he is back up there. I don't think there is anything that I haven't liked him in. This shoul make for a better Sherlock Holmes than the Will Ferrell one. Will Farrell is funny at times, but I am getting tired of him using the same people and acting the same way in every movie.

Yes he would, but i meant it as a joke. BUT THEN AGAIN... you never know. Maybe being in "a different state of mind" actually helped.
And for those who didn't know. Nyfresh is correct. Sherlock Holmes was an addict on morphine and cocaine. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Holmes
Also, (just in case you didn't know) Holmes is a fictional character. The guy never REALLY existed. There are some people who actually think the guy was real. I'm sure most of the members here know the real deal, but just in case...

moviebuff123 we really cant tell if it did or didnt help him in his cases but i could only imagine that it did, i mean he would b in a different state of mind

na im not talkin about Robert Downey Jr at all im talkin about Sherlock Holmes himself, he was actaully a coke fiend and i was wonderin if they were gonna put that in the movie, i mean it would b f*cked up but this is gonna b a comedy right>? idk just a thought
4 years agoby @leo16Flag
Err
i never read any sherlock books, was he really doing cocaine in the stories? thats pretty funny, but not all that surprising when you consider that you used to be able to buy coke from the corner store back in the back in the way back in the day.

nyfresh are you referring to Robert Downey Jr.'s past drug addiction...

Yea, I read about that. Wonder if the coke use helped him figure out cases... you know, like seeing the cases in a way he normally wouldn't if he wasn't high. Hope Downey Jr doesn't have to film scenes about that or he might have flash backs of his addictive habits, regress, and start all that sh*t again.

my nigga sherlock was the biggest coke fiend, i wonder if there gonna use that in the film, that would b hilarious lol

in recent years theres been a thin line between stupid comedy, and comedy thats so stupid its funny, especially in relation to will ferrel movies.

ok, gotcha. Your up for a good funny portrayal of Holmes, but not a stupid funny comedy (the kind you roll your eyes at). Fair enough.
I just hope there isn't another kissing scene between Cohen and Farrell. Other than that, I thought Talladega Nights was fairly funny. Maybe, just maybe, these two can make this a decently funny movie... however, I'm with you and most everybody else... I prefer Downey Jr in the more dramatic role.

ok good point. i wasn't really thinking when i said that. im just not really a fan of cohen. im just afraid that hes going to take holmes and turn it into a stupid comedy instead of a decently funny comedy. i always see holmes as a rather sophisticated detective that no matter what gets the job done but takes every job seriously. but we'll see who knows it could be decent.

A bit more dramatic??? Immortal... you need to read a little more carefully. Cohen's portayal of Holmes is SUPPOSED TO BE comedic... The movie's a comedy for god sake. So I think Downey Jr's portrayal will be MUCH MORE dramatic since its a more serious tone with alot of action.

i think jr's holmes will be a bit better than then baron's holmes because baron is a bit more of a comedic actor where as jr. is a bit more dramatic. he'll make the character seem more lifelike and the movie seem much more dramatic and realisitic where as im afraid cohen's might come off as slapstick and just a comedy with the sherlock holmes title and and story as a base. but right now ill wait to see the trailers once both films begin to shoot.
