The actor reveals he would suit up again for the trilogy-maker
While Iron Man 2 looks to be just as successful as its predecessor, a third Tony Stark film hasn't been mentioned before until now. The Associated Press caught up with Robert Downey Jr. and Zach Galifianakis who were promoting their new film Due Date at ShoWest and Downey Jr. appeared to indicate that he would return for Iron man 3. Here's an excerpt from the article.

Galifianakis said he expects to begin work this fall on the sequel to The Hangover, while Downey said he aims to suit up for a third Iron Man flick.

While it's not a direct quote from Downey Jr., it seems a third film is in the cards. However, with The Avengers lined up for a 2012 release, it isn't quite clear when we will see Iron Man 3 in theaters. This third film could also be when fans could get a glimpse at the Mandarin as well.

Stay tuned as we'll be sure to keep you posted on any Iron Man 3 updates as soon as we have more information.

Iron Man 2 was released May 7th, 2010 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Jon Favreau.

It will sure be a challenge to try and release it before the Ultimate Marvel Team-up. I would suggest they take their time on the third, if there will be any. No doubt there could be any, but just in-case.

Iron Man 3, probably 2013, I would say. I imagine Favreau will be using the "Enter The Mandarin" story arc from the comics just as he used "Armor Wars" and "Demon in a Bottle" for Iron Man 2. I know he is going to produce The Avengers, but it would not be smart to not have everything ready so after they shoot The Avengers, they can just hop right over to Iron Man 3. Because if they wait, we will be looking at 4-5 years after Iron Man 2 comes out before the conclusion in Iron Man 3.

I AM FRATSON is right. As long as the quality is consistently good, they should keep making movies. This goes for Iron Man, Batman, and any other movie series that has a great pool of material to draw from.

@I AM FRATSON: You bring up a good point, I personally wouldn't mind seeing more of Tony Stark. If they choose to take it down the road of "more than just a Trilogy" they'd better have the quality at its highest.

Ironman 3 will not take place before Avengers, that is way too much juggling for RDJ, maybe not considering a lot of it is CGI and maybe three months of actual acting but still, its too rushed to get it before Avengers

  24. I AM FRATSON

disagree. Downey has such a passion for the character obviously and I think he could take the series past a third film. I can't see anyone ever playing the role better. The same with Batman, sure you can end it at 3, but there is a whole mess of material there to work with. Personally, id keep them going for as long as possible. As long as they do not go down in quality obviously.

the way Alice in Wonderland is moving up the box office already, Ironman 2 will hit an easy $300-$350 million domestically, its only fitting to do a third marketing wise for business, but like the article says when? 2013....cause as of now they still have to begin Thor filming scenes with the actors, then begin Capt America and the Avengers, plus RDJ will be doing Sherlock Holmes 2 all i can say is busy busy man

  26. phatalphd

plus you can't have a iron man trilogy without Mandarin as a bad guy...so that's who I'm hoping for in Iron Man 3

Three is a charm. When there is one, two comes around, then a third comes out. It really depends on the franchise.

I enjoyed the Matrix films, first I liked the most but I still think that the robots will try to use the humans. Would really like to see another trilogy of that series.

  28. the MovieGhost

I'm not really surprised, given how succesful the first Iron Man was and how well the Second will do, they'd be idiots not to make at least a Trilogy. But they can't overdo it, obviously, they should just make a Trilogy, provide some measure of closure with the 3rd, and leave it at that.

    Bring on Iron Man 3!!
