Robert De Niro and 50 Cent reteam for Freelacers
It may sound like an odd pairing, but hardcore rapper 50 Cent (aka Cutris Jackson) is once again teaming up with his Righteous Kill costar, hardcore actor Robert De Niro for the gritty police drama Freelancers.

Forest Whitaker is also in talks to come aboard this tale from writer Philippe Casseus, which follows the son of a slain NYPD officer who decides to join the Police Academy. After graduating, 50 Cent's character finds a mentor in his father's former partner (Robert De Niro). Together, they become part of a rogue task force to rid New York City's streets of crime. It is not known at this time who Forest Whitaker will be playing in the movie.

Freelancers begins production on April 18th in New Orleans.

Freelancers was released August 10th, 2012 and stars Robert De Niro, Forest Whitaker, 50 Cent, Dana Delany, Beau Garrett, Michael McGrady, Matt Gerald, Jeff Chase. The film is directed by Jessy Terrero.

Setup actually looks to be a film I could enjoy. 50 Cent, who is still a solid rapper, looks to be making the most of his B movie work. De Niro doesn't usually get involved in horrible films, so that's certainly a good sign and Twelve wasn't all that bad either. Kilmer doesn't seem interested in being involved with blockbusters anymore, just paying the bills in films that don't have to make tons of money. He's already enjoyed being the "it" guy for many years and his work during that time speaks for itself, quite loudly in fact. Being free of the pressure that comes with the Hollywood blockbusters being a failure or success has to be a huge relief, when you can still get paid to do something you love anyway. The idea that 50 can destroy De Niro or Bruno by working with them is pure nonsense and a bit of a joke really.

50 Cent may not be the greatest rapper to make the transition into acting but the co-stars in his films are no better and the stories are cliche. Val Kilmer does crappy flicks like "Streets of Blood" and the latest is "Gun" and there's no denying it. A respected actor like Robert De Niro cannot always star in mainstream films and it helps 50's film career because 50 has decided to do independent films instead like his Before I Self Destruct (which was released with his album) and his upcoming flick "Things Fall Apart" that has Ray Liotta... not to mention "Twelve" with Chase Crawford and Emma Roberts.

But there are better rapper/actors than 50 Cent.

@slysnide That's because they all go straight to dvd, lol. Apparently 50 Cent now thinks he's a writer/director/producer/actor...basically a connoisseur of anything having to do with film.

He and Val have become best friends over the last few years, and Val always appears in 50's crappy movies. De Niro seems to be his next victim, and Bruce Willis is next in line having already completed filming Setup, another of 50's upcoming producer/actor credits.

@slysnide You ask what happened to Val Kilmer? He's been making horrible B movies with 50 Cent for the past 5 years, lol. That was my point with De Niro linking up with 50 once again after the atrocity that was Righteous Kill. I agree that Kilmer's career doesn't stack up to De Niro's in the slightest. I was just pointing out that at this point in their careers, they're pretty much putting out the same quality of work.

@thedude-abides: I don't know about that. DeNiro has far too many more films to rack up on his resume to resemble Val Kilmer...speaking of which, whatever happened to him? After "Heat" (1995) he just sorta faded away. Granted the partial sh*tstorm of "Batman Forever" hit the same year, but his role in "Heat" should've propelled him into better roles. Ah well. Win some lose some I guess.

Robert De Niro is now on the same level as Val Kilmer. This is heartbreaking to me :(
