Robert de Niro Leaves Edge of Darkness Set

The cast and filmmakers of Edge of Darkness have a very big hole to fill after a recent departure. According to Variety, Robert De Niro has walked away from his role on Edge of Darkness after being on the set for less than a week.

"Sometimes things don't work out, it's called creative differences," explained a spokesman for the actor.

De Niro was set to star alongside Mel Gibson, as a special-ops agent sent in to clean up the evidence of a young woman's murder. Gibson is portraying the woman's father, a Boston detective who discovers his daughter's hidden life.

The film, which Martin Campbell is directing from a William Monaghan script, just started filming in Massachusetts on August 18. It was said that they will shoot around De Niro's role until his replacement is cast.

Edge of Darkness was released January 29th, 2010 and stars Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic, Shawn Roberts, David Aaron Baker, Jay O. Sanders, Denis O'Hare. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

Great news! Now, let's hope the entire project is scrapped. There's no way they can top the original. No way, whatsoever.

Yea, it's definitely got to be more than the differences. It does suck that he walked away though. It sounds like an awesome movie.

I agree with Agent Vis, there is more to it than "creative differences". It sucks, they would have been awesome on screen together.
