Robert Rodriguez is gearing up to start production on a full-length film based off his Machete trailer that was shown between films in Grindhouse, and some amazing casting rumors have started to come forward. Bloody-Disgusting is reporting from one of their tipsters that Michelle Rodriguez, Jonah Hill and screen legend Robert De Niro have been cast in Machete. Here's an excerpt from the site's report.

What we learned is the following:

Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis are teaming up to begin filming Machete on July 29th. They are co-directors.

- DANNY TREJO is returning (obviously) as "Machete", the madman bent on revenge.
- MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ ("Lost", Fast & Furious, Avatar) is said to be playing "Luz".
- JONAH HILL, the comedian who has starred in such films as Superbad and the forthcoming Adam Sandler comedy Funny People, will play "Julio".
- Lastly, a legend of our time, ROBERT DE NIRO, will take on the role of "Senator McLaughlin".


While the site is reporting this is a reliable source, the site also notes to file this under "rumor" until further confirmation can be had. We'll be sure to keep you posted on these incredible developments as soon as we have more information.

Machete was released September 3rd, 2010 and stars Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson. The film is directed by Ethan Maniquis, Robert Rodriguez.

    Yeah, Trejo is the only reason why i'm interested. This guy has been a great character actor for so many years; it would be great to see him take on a big lead role.

    Agreed there newkill, I forgot all about of those 2 DeNiro flicks you didn't like, and "Righteous Kill" was lacking too much. Though I gave it 3.5 since I kinda liked the story, but it's more like halfway between 3 & 3.5 for me.

    And yeah, I get what you mean now about Rodiguez not taking projects too seriously. It's more tragic that he spends more time on his occasional kiddie flicks. Though I'll probably see "Machete" for the sake of seeing Danny Trejo in the lead kickass role he's always deserved. Even at 65 he's still got it!

    i've always liked rodriguez' stuff... i just wish he would focus on one project at a time because it pisses me off when he talks about a Barbarella remake or Sin City 2 and then just sits on it. planet terror is one of my all time fav cheese horror movies

    That's what i meant. Rodriguez makes those kind of films on purpose. He's not trying to take them seriously at all. That's not being decent. Yeah, the only difference between Hooper and Rodriguez is that Hooper has actually done something without taking it seriously and made a classic. None of Rodriguez's films will be known as classics, except Sin City, but he took that very seriously so that doesn't count. And i'm getting sick and tired of this Rodriguez, he needs something new.
    Well, after Deniro made the great film, The good sheperd, he went out and did these sh*tty ass films: Stardust, What just Happened, and Righteous Kill, which after that i thought he called it quits, because that movie should have been called Career Kill.

    Those three you mentioned weren't meant to be taken seriously newkill, that's the humor of Rodriguez's stuff. Tobe Hooper never meant the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" to be taken too seriously either, yet it became a horror classic, which puzzles both him and me till this day.

    And what were DeNiro's last 3 movies that weren't very good?

    He hasn't been in a decent movie for a long time', a retarded comment posted by radimus. The movie hasn't even come out yet and your calling it decent. Rodriguez has a career of making bad films on purpose, such as Dusk til Dawn, Desperado, planet terror. none of these are decent.
