Rob Reiner's Flipped Will Not Go Into Wide Release
Warner Bros. brought out Flipped on August 6 in 45 theaters in three markets: Los Angeles, Sacramento and Austin. The PG-rated film's limited release was supported by a bunch of media articles and other media items promoting Flipped and Reiner.
Despite many good reviews, Flipped performed weakly. Warner Bros. reduced the film to 29 runs last weekend and still got similarly soft results.
This weekend, its run in theaters will go down to eight. The latest playdates will include new markets.
"While our initial test markets did not perform to our expectation, we love this movie, and we are committed to six new markets with a different plan in the hope we can find the audience to make this film a success," offered Warner Bros. distribution head, Dan Fellman.
Flipped was released August 6th, 2010 and stars Madeline Carroll, Callan McAuliffe, Rebecca De Mornay, Anthony Edwards, John Mahoney, Penelope Ann Miller, Aidan Quinn, Kevin Weisman. The film is directed by Rob Reiner.

I agree with Jimthar. I believe this movie would have had quite a bit of interest if it had simply been promoted. I was only familiar with it because I looked at upcoming movies online. I have not seen one ad on tv or previews in theaters. Nobody is going to see a movie if they have never even heard of it. It's quite a shame too, because this looks like a good movie that the whole family can enjoy, hopefully it still sees a release in the future, at least on dvd.

I like his films too, I've not heard a thing about this film at all. Talk about a silent promo.
Ha I have a thought if any of you have a myspace or facebook account I suggest promote it as much as possible.
Did any of you hear Legend of the Seeker has been canceled for sure. Promote that series as well, lets show the industry that we care.

well maybe the reason it didnt make any money is because there was NO promotion for it!!! i've never even heard of this movie, nor have i ever seen one trailer for it. hell i'm on movieweb EVERY DAY and this is still only the first time i've heard of it. which is a true shame since reiner usually makes really good movies. but if you're going to release a movie in limited release and do absolutely no promo for it, yeah, it's not gonna make any money. geniuses, they are. i mean, has anyone here actually seen a trailer for this??? either in the movies or on tv?? yeah, me either. oh well, there's always redbox......
