Rob Marshall to Direct Pirates of the Caribbean 4?

It seems there might be a new helmer behind Johnny Depp's pirate franchise. According to Variety, Disney is close to signing on Rob Marshall to direct Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

Marshall, who directed the Best Picture Oscar winner Chicago, would take the reins from Gore Verbinski, who directed the first three films but opted out of the fourth so he could focus on Bioshock, even though that film has hit delays.

It was said that Marshall's involvement in the film wasn't immediately confirmed, but that negotiations are going smoothly enough for the studio to begin casting for new characters.

We'll certainly keep you posted on any new developments surrounding Marshall's involvement or any other news on Pirates of the Caribbean 4.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was released May 20th, 2011 and stars Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Geoffrey Rush, Ian McShane, Kevin McNally, Sam Claflin, Astrid Berges-Frisbey, Stephen Graham. The film is directed by Rob Marshall.

Barbossa & Sparrow to meet up in newly founded New Orleans to begin a partnership in search for the Aqua De Vida (Water of Life). Jack has the map, and probably something else for Barbossa to not just kill him for said map.

This plot's been definite since "The Art of the Pirates of the Caribbean." Filming begins April and/or May 2010 for a summer 2011 release. It will be on a much smaller scale said Disney Spokesman Oren Aviv at Comic-Con who realizes that getting bigger than the last two is ridiculous, and would rather focus on characters both new & old like the first film did so well.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer wants P4's filming finished before filming his, Depp's, and writers Rossio & Elliot's next collaboration "The Lone Ranger" which will also be released in 2011.

Whoever says that the franchise is dead is a person with no eyes, or didn't watch POTC3 at the end the mysterys still flow arround like a mother f*cker. POTC4 was a deffinite.
and, as said, these movies kept the hype unlike T2 where the movie dropped down to a complete new level of sh*tty.
Also, POTC4 was to start shooting in 2010. may I think, but in 2010. I think that's one of the biggest news to add to this MW. WTF, its like we know the news way before its written on here, come on MW, get your system on and catch up with the news... UGH this pisses me off.

LOL, i find it funny how you guys keep babbling on about Gore & Bioshock, simple fact is that.

Gore Verbrinski has dumped Bioshock, its just that Movieweb is slow since comic con.

Its like the news that we've been getting about The Hobbit, did any of you know the film hasn't even been Greenlit, yet.
Despite how much news we've been getting, it get decided sometime in August weather the film is greenlit, which is when the SCRIPT is deadlined in by the studio.

And again, just for spite, Gore needs to f*cking focus his FULL attention on Bioshock.

I'm with Zany 100%. And its not dead. The sequels wee decent, and FAR better than Transformers sequel, or most for that matter.

Oh yeah, I remember when they talked about Russel Brand playing the brother. He just better not be the main character.
And your right ZanyZap, everyone is going to see this no matter how much complaining goes on.
Anyway, Depp is the star of Pirates, and they need to keep it that way. And if Verbinski ever considered doing Pirates 4 after BioShock, then hopefully that will give him a fresh look at the franchise and not try so hard like he did with At World's End- meaning he tried too hard on the third one, thats's why it was kind of weird and stupid. I still thought it was desent, though.

they are going to bring in his brother, Junior.

His called John Sparrow, i think i remember his name began with a J, he is also going to be played by Russel Brand, whom technically is a perfect candidate, since he looks like Depp from a Burton movie lol.

  17. ZanyZap

Agreed, CB. Gore should make BioShock (although, Peter Jackson does need another big movie) and THEN do Pirates. Either way, everyone who's bitching will most likely see this anyway.

  19. CB Junior

Chicago was completely overrated. Gore Verbinski should do BioShock then focus on this. Seriously, Verbinski or Peter Jackson are the only people that might make this work, but we all know that Jackson wouldn't do this, so their was no point in me saying that. I'm one of the few people who actually likes the entire trilogy. Sure, the two sequels aren't nearly as good as the first one, but I still see some life left.
And when they say "new characters", I'm assuming they are talking about the characters the surround Depp, because if he's not in it, then like Vital said, no one will see it.

Honestly, having Depp in it will be okay, they could make it work. If he's not in it, there's literally no point of doing another film cause no one will see it.

This is good news!, and no lock and stock, its not going to be a flop, you are so wrong about that!. You and i both should be glad that its not going to be the director from the movie flops such as speed racer and/or a sound of thunder!. This movie movie as i can already see, is going to have a very bright future!. Theres even plans now to have this movies filming starting in 2010, and release to theaters in 2011. Theres no way this movie is going to be a flop, so "no worries!".
