Rise of the Planet of the Apes WETA Concept Art

Earlier today, WETA held a special online presentation for this summer's prequel/reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes, where they showed off some of the concept art from the movie. You can check out some of these images, which depict an ape uprising and take-over, in the photos below.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released August 5th, 2011 and stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Tyler Labine, Jamie Harris. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt.

    #5. Rod Serling took the book and made it a social statement on Human Society and where we're heading if we keep this sh*t upof our own destruction. Hence our own dismise. Also a lot of political statements as this was film in the late 60's in the Vietnam era. But most can't read into it. 6. Ain't that the best sci-fi of all? a reflection of us, just look at Twilite Zone which Rod wrote a lot for. 7. Told you this means a lot. and last 8. my spell check aint working. sorry..lol

    Questions from my emails: 1. This is a reboot all together as this will start the new franchise all over with a new timeline. 2 . Just think "of "Conquest" (#4)movie as a reboot with Genetic enginering instead of being a son of smart apes from "Escape"(#3). #. Burton had a modern diff timeline as it had a space station for traveling monkeys. A "high concept" that had nothing to do with the book EXCEPT:4. The ending of the book "Monkey Planet" had the sole astronaut return to earth just to find out he landed in present day but still a Monkey Planet. ...#5....

    @dan1 The thing that made the original series so fun was learning how the Earth became the planet of the apes. Since its a very popular sereis and Tim Burtons version went down that same path albiet with a different and much weacker surprise ending, it would make sense to reboot and go in chronilogical order.

    SPOILERS FOR THOSE WHO HAVE NOT SEEN

    .....

    I just loved how the original apes taking over was a paradox of the events of the first 2 movies. If the astronauts never ended up there they would never have set off the bomb, the planet would not have exploded forcing ceaser and his crew to travel back to our present day earth and start the rebelion that leads to the original movies setting (i love paradoxes!)

    so my point: it needs to be handled as more than just an action movie with neat special effects.

    @skywise Pretty sure this is a reboot. I know the word 'prequel' gets thrown around, since it's an origin story, but it's more of a do-over in my eyes like Batman Begins.

    I can't wait to see how chaotic and violent it gets. From these concept pictures, it'll be crazy go bananas fun :P

    @dan1 The apes look so much more realistic and the inteligence in their eyes is striking. If only Tim Burton had this tech back when he was doing his thing. That would help with continuity or is this a reboot just being told in chronilogical order?

    Was Not looking forward to the reboot cause of that disaster that Tim Burton did. Damn him straight to hell! But seeing Andy and Weta doing the SFX this is going to rock. Something different from all those comic book movies which is getting tiring really fast. This is my favorite franchise of all time so I feel good with WETA behind this not screwing this up.
