Rise of the Apes is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released August 5th, 2011 and stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Tyler Labine, Jamie Harris. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt.

Tim Burton's planet of the apes was horrible. I cannot wait to see this movie. Andy Serkis as an ape? Amazing. His motion capture performances are so like an apes actual movements. King kong, gollum and smeagel. I hope this movie will bring this franchise back to life.

A prequel must be part of the same series as the publication to which it is a prequel. As with the case of Batman Begins, starting the story (and the series) anew, it is not a prequel - but rather a reboot - Wiki
This is NOT a prequel. The article would have said so, but they call it an "origin story."

I'm excited for this. I believe this will be the redemption for the series after Tim Burton's failed attempt. Very likable, good cast, and it starts the story over from zero, giving it a clean slate.

You do realize that actors do fool around after they shoot between scenes. There are more bloopers out there than anyone realizes, unless they don't like each other but that's not very common to happen.
