Planet of the Apes gets an official title
20th Century Fox has given a new title to its Planet of the Apes prequel, which was formerly titled Rise of the Apes, is now titled Rise of the Planet of the Apes, to keep it more in line with previous films in the franchise.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes is an origin story in the truest sense of the term. Set in present day San Francisco, the film is a reality-based cautionary tale, a science fiction/science fact blend, where man's own experiments with genetic engineering lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy.

The first movie trailer is expected to hit theaters on April 15th, 2011.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes was released August 5th, 2011 and stars James Franco, Freida Pinto, John Lithgow, Brian Cox, Tom Felton, David Oyelowo, Tyler Labine, Jamie Harris. The film is directed by Rupert Wyatt.

@bawnian-dexeus but it's not a prequel to Tim Burton's version, so that wouldn't work. Being a long-time Apes fan, I like the name change. I know it's gonna be a reboot and all, but I do like how they're sort of making it like the older ones (which I love). Oh, and it's no wordier than Beneath the Planet of the Apes or Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Just sayin' :)

Ceasar:Rise of the Apes or just Rise of the Apes wouldve been fine

The director said before he wanted to make new trilogy to the Apes mythos, but now that they want to tie it to the previous films, i wonder if that will effect the future films if they get made...

Okay, I guess the word "RISE" is going to be the latest fad for movies! So when Star Trek does another movie it may be entitled "Star Trek:The Rise Of Khan" if they so happen to use the character in one of the next two movies...how cheesy.

Not really interested in this BUT i do approve of the name change. The thing that has me worried is the CGI apes. I was a big fan of the original series when i was a kid so needless to say i was a little disapointed with Burtons take on that universe....i dont expect this one to be any better but...heres to hoping

Call me crazy, but I like it. It fits the way the old sequels were titled. Is it wordy? Yes. But I like having "planet of the apes" in the title.

This reminds me of the new karate kid in that it should've been called The Kung Fu Kid but they changed it because they think we're too dumb to know what it is. They figure they'll make more money this way. Watch them change Prometheus to Alien begins or something.

I like it. All the other Planet of the Apes films had "Planet of the Apes" in the title, so it's fitting, for continuity's sake.
