Rihanna set for Battleship
According to Variety, director Peter Berg is expected to soon begin shooting the live-action tentpole based on Hasbro's naval combat board game.
Battleship takes place across the seas, over the skies and land in a battle for planet survival against a superior force. Kitsch stars as a naval officer who leads the fight. Skarsgård will play his brother.
Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber wrote the screenplay, with revisions by Brian Koppelman and David Levien.
Battleship was released May 18th, 2012 and stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, Brooklyn Decker, Tadanobu Asano, Hamish Linklater, Liam Neeson, Peter MacNicol. The film is directed by Peter Berg.

I've heard that Peter Berg is a huge naval buff and he's taking this project quite seriously. It seems like they're assembling a hell of a cast, so perhaps it's best to give the film a chance rather than write it off because of the franchise ties.

my beef (AGAIN) is the notion that it is based on the battleship board game. IT'S NOT! the only similarities are the ocean, the navy boats, the logo (used generously by hasboro to pimp their great product, tying with this crap concept) and the aliens ships... wait, alien ships?!?!?!
i was one of the few who stood by this production when it was first announced. once it went the alien route, it lost me.

do the execs at hasbro have NO power over this film or do they simply have no problem with their product being misrepresented in film??? first they screw up the naval battle premise and make it navy vs aliens (which, thanks to "Monsters," the alien vs. mankind films have now officially worn out their welcome)... now they add RHIANNA?!?!?! while they're at it, throw in 50 Cent, Nic Cage's squirrel hair and let's give Urkel another shot at an acting career.
