Ridley Scott Talks Prometheus and Blade Runner Sequels

Ridley Scott discusses Prometheus and Blade Runner sequels
Back in August, 20th Century Fox confirmed that Prometheus 2 is in the works, with director Ridley Scott and stars Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender slated to return. Ridley Scott recently spoke about what drove him back to the sci-fi genre with Prometheus, offering a potential tease for the sequel.

"I hadn't done sci-fi for so long and I enjoyed doing it. Plus, when it comes to the Alien world, no one else had addressed the origin question and I thought that was interesting to tackle. Prometheus evolved into a whole other universe. You've got a person [Noomi Rapace's Elizabeth Shaw] with a head in a bag [Michael Fassbender's David] that functions and has an IQ of 350. It can explain to her how to put the head back on the body and she's gonna think about that long and hard because, once the head is back on his body, he's dangerous."

When asked if that summed up his idea for the sequel, the filmmaker had this reply.

"I wish it was that easy. They're going off to paradise but it could be the most savage, horrible place. Who are the Engineers?"

Ridley Scott also spoke about the Untitled Blade Runner Project, and whether or not Harrison Ford will reprise his role from the original Blade Runner.

"It's not a rumour - it's happening. With Harrison Ford? I don't know yet. Is he too old? Well, he was a Nexus-6 so we don't know how long he can live [laughs]. And that's all I'm going to say at this stage."

Prometheus 2 comes to theaters in 2014 and stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender. The film is directed by Ridley Scott.

@David-garcia-67788063 Where did you hear that it would be called Paradise? Is there a website you read that from?

@rudy It's called Paradise, that's the name of the sequel of Prometheus, and why did they create the xenomorphs as bioweapons. And it said that the Engineers are at war with another advanced race.

Rapace's character was idiotic in "Prometheus." Earth functions as a microcosm as David pointed out. He also pointed out that since he was created for the hell of it, then there's nothing unique or divine about humans to make them any more special in that category. They're just other beings in that microcosm. Ergo, for Rapace to recognize the foolishness of the voyage in the climax, and then to idiotically continue that arrogant self indulging quest to make humans seem more than they really are makes a sequel ridiculous. Having engineers craft humans in their form defeats the entire aspect of the microcosm, and David's intellect is all for nothing if it's rendered moot by the existence of these humanoid engineers. In short, Rapace is as shortsighted as the others on the quest in thinking of herself as being superior to all other millions of lifeforms on Earth which evolved out of the microcosm and survive as such. And given all the time that was spent developing David's genius intellect for the story, then it's odd that Ridley Scott is putting so much emphasis on this "where did we come from?" idea.

I dont' need a Prometheus sequel (or a Blade Runner sequel, for that matter). I loved the first one and liked the way it ended, but I'm also game for whatever Ridley comes up with.

I am looking forward to see a Prometheus sequel. I really liked Prometheus, i thought it was absolutely awesome! I would think though that Harrison Ford is probably too old, for the role that he played in the Blade Runner movie by now. Maybe they could cast some other actor for a lead role in the movie, that would be similar to his character from the Blade Runner movie.

@gandoff2169, If I'm not mistaken the planet they were on was not the same planet that the Nostromo landed on in the original Alien, I believe they had Prometheus set on a different planet so we would get the idea that there were more installations on many other planets. Also the xenomorphs take on characteristics of their hosts which in this case was Shaw/Holloway and the engineer that is one reason the alien was different physically and i believe another reason for that being that the alien image has been used and dilluted so many time in the later sequels and spin offs, that they wanted something new and fresh. Prometheus really wasn't meant to be a prequel to Alien, but a film set in the same universe. I think they deliberately left out certain answers for two reasons .1 so they could be included to in the next film, and 2. because we were meant to come up with some of our own answers to the mythology. All in all I think it was an effective addition to the series.

I was extremely disappointed with Prometheus. Visually, was extraordinary. But story was, was a let down. Nothing not only, was unexpected. But some key points was changed and left empty. One example, was the end. The location of the alien that punched out of the Engineers chest. In Aliens, he was in the helm of the ship, while in Prometheus, he was laying in the life buoy. And then the redesigned of the Alien that punched out of his chest. Has to be a queen, since in Alien it has laid the eggs, but noted differences of the Queen's in different Alien movies. Not to mention Prometheus was supposed to explain who the Engineers are, and why they wanted to send the bio creation to earth. I would have at least expected information on why. Yes, I know there is the opening for a sequel, and will be done. But shouldn't we have gotten some information? We knew that they created the Aliens. We knew the film was going to say they had created Us. We also knew they was going to send the Aliens to Earth to kill Us. So then there is the movie. Which only goes to asks these questions, and never answering them.
