Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick to Write Deadpool?

It seems that the writers who took us to Zombieland might be writing a superhero spin-off film. According to CHUD, Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are rumored to be writing the upcoming Deadpool film for Marvel Studios.

While the site couldn't confirm the news, their source revealed that the news could possibly appear in the trade publications within the next few days. The writers' flair for dialogue in Zombieland would obviously be well-suited for the Deadpool, whose nickname in the comic books is "The Merc With the Mouth."

Ryan Reynolds, who appeared as the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine will reprise his role in the spin-off. We'll be sure to keep you posted on this story or any other aspects of Deadpool as soon as we have more information.

Deadpool is in development and stars Ryan Reynolds.

Cable should appear in the Deadpool film for sure.

Oh and Just friends was f*cking hilarious, but I laughed more at Waiting. Van Wilder gave us Kumar, so I cant hate on that. Even tho Tara Reid was in it.

-Agreed. What the studio made Gavin Hood do to Deadpool was unforgivable in Origins... Tho I do have faith in Reynolds pulling off both characters (GL/DP) cus Deadpool has a full masked face, and if his face were shown it would most assuredly be scarred. Honestly tho, I fancy myself a writer, but I have no clue how to remedy the fatal flaws of 'powering' up Deadpool and then halfway killing him last year.
-Should Cable/Nate grey appear in the deadpool film? When do u guys think they should bring arguably one of the more important X-characters ever into one of these films? Who would play young and old Cable?
-Havent seen Zombieland. People who liked it werent tlking about the dialogue tho. I mean studios are truly this lazy? U know what it is people. THese zombiehumper guys are relatively new, so their pricetag is prolly a quarter of the top notch writers. I heard a rumor some screenwriter/director south of the border had a nice deadpool script drafted, but the studios leaked it, and he then said f*ck off.

Don't forget Hannibal King. That was a funny role. Reynolds can act, just has never taken on roles where he needs to. He is not oscar worthy, but he can do serious and american and bold perfect for GL script.

LOL@ "the only movies he was ever good in were Just Friends, Van Wilder, and Waiting"

I hated all three of those movies.

I like Reynolds, though. He proved in his bit part in Xmen Wolverine that he has the vibe needed for this character. Plus he's a huge fan of the character in the comics, so I can't see him not doing a good job. Deadpool is basically the same annoying smartass Reynolds plays in everything, except more mentally unstable.

He was good in Definitely Maybe, and I'm also excited for Buried.

I really don't think I'll take Reynolds seriously seeing him in the Green Lantern Tights, that's why I support the Nobody for Superheroes Initiative.......totally not made up... >,> XD
But yeah, I mean look how much better movies turn out when Low Profile actors play the roles.
Spider-man 1 - Toby McGuire? Before he was a bitched out pansy, he played Peter Parker well.
And Christian Bale as batman, sure, he f*cked up the voice in TDK (which I'm only half agreeable to), but he played Bruce Wayne very well, and really his only role that made him was American Psycho.

In short: Low Profile Actors are better decisions for superheroes.

and I never heard of the Nines before, I'll check it out probably if it's really that good.

The only three movies I thought he was ever good in as the lead, were Just Friends, Van Wilder, and Waiting... which really isn't saying much, considering he played the same character in all three movies. I'm gonna check out Burried when it comes out, but I have the strong feeling that it'll fail...90 minutes of him in a coffin, and in the end most likely he'll have a sad, unanswered death, with something being revealed in the last few minutes. But an actor is only good in a drama when he has interaction with other people, being in a coffin for 90 minutes alone is just gonna get boring after a while.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not totally dissing the movie, its just that personal movie experiences left me a bit skeptical.

That's why I want to see "Buried." He's a lead in that. In fact, he's buried underground for 90 minutes, which should be enough to time for him to show his dramatic skills.

I've also heard he's good in "The Nines."

Eh, I've seen a draft of the script. Unless they did a complete overhaul, and switched out Reynolds with someone who can actually carry a leading role, (lets face it, without playing a douchebaggy comedian role, Reynolds has no hope playing lead), than GL has a high chance of being good.

    2 years agoby @jokers-wild-xFlag

  13. T.Clark

I'd rather Reynolds focused on GL right now, because that actually has a high chance of being good.

The CGI in the first two X-films were WAAAAYY better than Wolverine.

And to Username, i agree with your thoughts on Deadpool, what they did to him was f*cking moronic.
The CGI I didn't think was to horrible, it seemed like the same effects the last three movies had.
    But yeah, back on Deadpool,
they should just scrap what they had from Wolverine, and just completely Re-Do Deadpool with a Cable and Deadpool movie, with Fox NOT attached.

I thought the Wolverine Movie was better than some of the other comic book adaptations that came out. I mean really, aside from Spider-Man 1 &2, TDK and Begins, Xmen 1, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk and Watchmen was really that good? I'm sure I missed a few but I don't care lol. Wolverine wasn't the best, but I saw it as better than half the other X-men movies. And really, the post-credits scenes don't necessarily mean they'll go with that story. Sure, Deadpool lived cause we see him wink to the camera, doesn't mean we'll see Deadpool: The Movie. Look at Freddy Vs. Jason for example. Freddy Winked! Now wheres Freddy Vs. Jason 2: The marvelous Sh*tfest?!
Seriously, you all take this out of proportion, because New Kill doesn't like some movies, you're really going to bitch about it? Sure, there are things that he says that I don't like either, but I just laugh it off.

Wolverine sucked. Too many characters, terrible CGI, and what they did to Deadpool is moronic.

Deadpool is dead because 20th Century Fox will f*ck this up. And yes, I did see the end credits with Deadpool alive. But ya know what? His head was an arm's length away from his body and he still didn't have a mouth. The only way this movie can work is if it's an origin story before the events of Wolverine, because I don't care what any one says: just because Deadpool is still alive after the credits doesn't mean they didn't f*ck him up for good.

"Merc With No Mouth." What a load of sh*t.

i agree with superjerk90 the version i got shows deadpool alive, i dont know what everyone else saw but what i did he is still around. and i have to ask you Newkill200 is their any movie in the last i dont know 10 years you have seen that you just like, because everything to you just sucks. so im curious as to what movies you think are good.

well first off glad to hear news on the deadpool movie! i honestly think or thought that this was or is going to be just another movie that never got made...but now id! ryan is one of my favorites and i loved zombieland so i stroked for this...also wolveine orgins was okay and i dont think it totally f*cked up deadpool because you gotta remember it's kinda like the orgins of deadpoo alsol. its like how he first came to be and got his mouth back... and now the movie will be a spin off but show how he comes about his costume and etc.

No, superjerk, i didn't stay after the credits. You know why? Because that movie was so terrible to stay even longer. Just because Deadpool is seen alive doesn't mean the movie will get made.

As I said before, they will NOT be picking this movie up at the end of Wolverine, trying to establish continuity. They are starting completely from scratch without ties to any previous films other than the fact that Reynolds is still playing him.

  25. superjerk90

hey newkill200 let me ask u somethin. I know u have seen the X- Men Origins Wolverine movie did u stay till the end of the credits? If so you should know that deadpool is alive. And uhm just for example were you a user on movieweb since batman begins came out. If so what was your reaction to that film. Before you seen it. And be honest? Did it suck did u say or did u say it looked awsome and it still is? Well don't be so quick to judge anything u do not know how this movie will turn out u really don't. ZanyZap u to did u stay till the end of the credits of the Wolverine movie deadpool lives. Not trying to explode on anyone but look at the entire movie befor u say anything. And just a foot note anyone who really doubts this movie i guess there's no reason for you guys to go watch it if u really doubt it that much that it shouldn't be made.
