Revenge of the Sith Games Rakes in $210 Million

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the new Star Wars DVD and video game generated an estimated $210 million in worldwide consumer spending their first week in stores, 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment said Tuesday.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, the sixth and final Star Wars film to appear on DVD, was released Nov. 1 in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Australia and Latin America, as was the video game Star Wars Battlefront II. The two titles will debut in four more major international markets by November 23. Fox provided no breakdown between the DVD and the video game, nor did it issue unit sales.

Jim Ward, senior vp Lucasfilm Ltd. and president of LucasArts, would only say sales in many territories "were nearly double what we initially expected", and that first-week sales of the video game are running 40% ahead of last year's original Star Wars Battlefront game. Sources estimate first-week DVD sales of Sith in the U.S. came in at 5.3 million units.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith was released May 19th, 2005 and stars Ewan McGregor, Natalie Portman, Hayden Christensen, Ian McDiarmid, Samuel L. Jackson, Jimmy Smits, Frank Oz, Anthony Daniels. The film is directed by George Lucas.
