Return of the King becomes this year's best selling home video title

The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Best picture Oscar winner The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King reigned supreme during its first week on home video, selling more than 6.3 million combined DVD and VHS units to consumers and video rental stores nationwide, according to industry observers.

While New Line Home Entertainment would neither confirm nor deny those initial sales estimates, topping the 6 million-unit mark during its first week makes the title this year's best-selling home video out of the gate, according to industry estimates.

"The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" DVD boxed set debuted at No. 5 on Nielsen VideoScan's First Alert DVD sales chart.

The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King was released December 17th, 2003 and stars Noel Appleby, Alexandra Astin, Sean Astin, David Aston, John Bach, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.
