Resident Evil 4 Updates Hit the Web

A fourth live-action installment of the Resident Evil series was reported last summer, but now it seems more information has come to light. JoBlo's horror section Arrow in the Head has received some updates on the production of Resident Evil 4.

Paul Anderson wrote the screenplay but he is not coming back to direct.

The screenplay is more akin to RE2 in terms of style, but with better dialogue. The overall tone is also very dark.

There's enough hand to hand fights in the script for them to bring in a martial arts choreographer.

Patrick Tatopoulos (Resident Evil: Extinction) will be in charge of the creature effects and they will have a new Special FX supervisor (in terms of the the practical effects) - Michael Lantieri (Jurassic Park III)

The script is complete (they're at Draft 2)) and they're going to start casting before making any more script changes.

So far, they will be filming in Toronto and Tokyo. Toronto will actually front for Alaska.

They will be hiring a director once they have Milla officially signed back on.

We'll definitely keep you posted on any new developments surrounding this fourth film.

Resident Evil: Afterlife was released September 10th, 2010 and stars Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Kim Coates, Shawn Roberts, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Spencer Locke, Boris Kodjoe, Wentworth Miller. The film is directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.

I liked the first film but once they made alice "super human" that was it, a big factor of RE is survival and fear, alice was up for fighting nemesis and managed to get him to remember who he and she was, if they tried that in the Resident evil 3 game, nemesis would rocket launch u to bits...I think they ruined him in apocalypse, and i think if they are to make a new film they should get rid of alice and bring in Chris, leon or maybe brin back jill. Wha dye think?

In some what way i agree with Vamp and Killerman...
But i also agree with that guy about having someone else other than Paul W.S Anderson direct and write.
They should follow the basic plot outline, not the entire game that would just be stupid.

Also for the dude i kind off agree with, he stated about about someone else doing this franchise like Romero or Del-Toro...
    News flash
Romero wrote the original script to Resident Evil based on the books and games but they never used the script. You can find it on literally any script site

They're filming in Tokyo, cause i guess that's where the last one left off. I think Tokyo is the only place with some signs of life, because that's where Wesker was transmitting messages underground.

I agree Vamp. Really, if you are a director and directing a video game adaptation, you shouldn't follow the script from the game. It would just feel like your watching the same thing, which wouldn't be right. You would know what happened in every part of the movie, if you played the game. Most of all the games are very long, you couldn't cut down the game script into a movie without leaving out major details.

You guys. You've seen TOO much to be scared by anything in these movies. It'd take a movie of such epicly horrific proportions that the DIRECTOR got too scared, and it got changed FIVE times before it'd scare you. You've grown up, so get the hell over it.

I agree, these movies don't follow the games well, save for "Resident Evil: Apocalypse," but do you REALLY want to see the SAME EXACT THING that you ALREADY knew was going to happen? Paul W.S. Anderson stayed true to the virus and everything about these movies, except that he didn't follow the storylines to an obsessive compulsive extent.

Alright....I think to this day that the video game franchise was a gift from the heavens cuz those games were amazing...awaiting the 5th installment... I think Paul Anderson should stay the f*ck away from these movies... I have not liked any of them because their supposed to be tied in to the game...in a being on crack kinda way... THEIR ZOMBIES!! theres no need for Martial Arts!! How are you going to fight a Cannibal dead zombie!! There no REAL characters related to the game other than Jill... its BS! they might as well start over with someone with Talent!! like George Romero like originally intended or someone else... Like Del Toro.. need feedback here...

I hope that Jensen Ackles signing on as Leon wasn't a rumor. We need to see more mutated creatures. And if they are going to use more zombies in the scenes make the scenes/zombies more gross (i.e. like in the Romero movies). I want to be scared like the damn games do to me. Use real makeup to show how f*cked up looking the zombies are. I hated that the hole in one of the zombies' face in part 1 was CGI. And what was that Asian chick's name in the fourth game? Ada Wong? Hopefully she'll be in this one too since some of the movie takes place in Tokyo.

They should use the characters from the games instead of adding a new character. Resident evil movies should scare the sh*t out of you and the ones out now dont. Thats why I didnt like them. Hopefully they'll do that with the new one.

  16. Mr. Fixit

the movies need to be a little more suspenseful. the kind of suspense that causes your a-hole to pucker tight, and then make you jump out of your socks when they scare ya. Just like the games. I'm 39 years old, and I'll admit those games scared the sh*t out me when I first played them.

  17. kyle_hannah

Milla will sign her husband pretty much owns the Resident Evil series. If any series needs rebooting it's this one they need to make a new Resident Evil film with plotlines and characters that actually exist in the game. While Paul WS Anderson has some good action flicks like Event Horizon, Soldier, and Death Race it's outweighed by his awful AVP:Alien vs Predator, Mortal Kombat, and Resident Evil films. Hopefully (i doubt it) but hopefully this will be closer to the games. To reply to killerman200's comment...been there done that dicks are just as tasty as breakfast sausages with twice the protein :)
